this game is a decent derivation from SO3, so it tickles my fancy. too bad it wasn't as good but it's serviceable if you get it for cheap
the only thing better than this would be to have that SO3 remaster localized, then I can get rid of my PS2

I liked it, nothing special but not horrible either. Loved the private actions, tons of hours of spoken dialouge between the party members. Made me like them lot more

No actual reasons given? Of course not. Anyway, this game is very underrated and gets a lot of unfair hate for stupid nonsensical reasons. Not saying it doesn't have it's faults, the low budget does show in places despite their best efforts, but it's still very much a good game that doesn't deserve the reputation. 4 is the only SO I've played but I really liked the International version

JP dubs and 2D stylized art menus were great, also the battle system is absolutely fantastic

Star Ocean 4 was alot more fun. Baccus could dash around well attacking so fluidly. Everything feels so limited and stiff in 5 to the point i dropped the game 6 hours in and returned it.

SO4 is a 6-7/10 game but fuck 5 wasn't even average like that was. Its just a fucking waste and for no real good reason. Also those in game cutscenes are just fucking disgusting. No zooming in just being locked into a red square until they finish? It lacks in every area.

Well I don't understand what makes it good. Combo paths felt less varied. Every attack felt like hitting a sponge. It felt as if the only way to start a good combo with Edge was his uppercut that took forever to come out. His arts were awkward and sometimes didn't seem to connect properly.

I don't know how you were playing but 5 shouldn't feel stiff at all. Stepping takes slight getting used to but all the moves and actions flow very well. The in game cutscenes can be hit and miss but the bad ones aren't awful, they're just there, and the battle transitions are great. The only places it's truly lacking are in the side content and perhaps the size of the world, but it masks that with how it uses it's space

SO5's didn't fall apart at the end though. I would say 3's is worse than 2's. 2's mainly just dull and boring and anticlimactic because of the fetch quest-fest followed by the villains losing all threat. 3's also throws out everything they'd been building up prior with the galactic war, has no character development where it'd be a pretty good time for it, and does absolutely nothing with the whole scenario. None of the party care, so we don't.
