Why hasn't Sony bought them out yet? It's been over

Because Sony knows Insomniac is inconsistent as fuck, compared to Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.

Because when you have such a good relationship with a studio there's no need to buy them, same with Quantic Dream, Housemarque, Ready at Dawn, Kojipro etc.

Besides Insomniac have kind of dropped in value over the years, maybe Spiderman can bring them back

What great game have they made? They make mediocre exclusives that sell meh, and awful third party games

Fuse and Sunset were arguably their lowest point, but they've been putting out excellent Ratchet games for over a decade, and Resistance was profitable. Spider-Man for PS4 will probably put them back on the map.

Insomniac doesn't want to be bought. I don't think they are publically traded either so Sony can't just buy up shares.

Insomniac has always wanted to remain independent and in recent years has vowed to keep ownership rights of all thier new ips. The only reason Sunset Overdrive is Microsoft exclusive is because they were the only publisher willing to let Insomniac own the brand (Microsoft owns the specific game). So a sequel, spin-off or anything related to Sunset Overdrive could be made on any other platform if they wanted.

Sadly this didn't go very well since the Xbox Audiance doesn't play anything except Halo and Gears, and Insomniac doesn't have any brand recognition over there. I admire their desire to own thier ip's (will prevent anythibg like post-ps1 Spyro ever happening again), but the game ended up being a moderate flop. Sony should have just let them do what they wanted, if you have a good relationship with a dev, and your system has 90% of thier fans there's no need to own the franchise.

Only played Mercenaries on the Vita. Does the series have deepest lore of any kind? The series has been around since PS2, but I haven't bother to get into it until recently.
