As >>376859076 said. You should install a few mods that fix some issues the game has but keep the experience basically vanilla. Those mods you can find easily on the nexus web site. The first and most important is the YUP unnoficial patch, NVAC, NVSR, NVSE, and if you want to change some things like adding sprint, etc i would recomend project nevada core module.

This right here. It really doesn't need any major rebalance mods for the first playthrough unlike modern Bethesda games, vanilla experience is good.

Also, out of those two big unofficial patches, YUP is the better one by far, Mission Mojave has some stupid unnecessary changes that an unofficial patch shouldn't have.

I would still consider it "vanilla" as long as all the mods are just bugfixes or UI improvements without any actual gameplay changes. Best way to put it would be fixed vanilla, really.

Game stands pretty well on its own otherwise.

Just use quality of life mods. You want the large address space mod. This allows you to tweak the .ini settings to support features like longer load distances so that the world doesn't load in really close. Take a look at this guide http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_10.html

You also can download some bug fixe mods which are useful.

Stay away from adding new items or changing the gameplay on your first playthrough.

so what character builds are you lads playing? i need some ideas, after finally buckling down to complete the game 100% with an invincible-do-anything-man courier instead of playing to the strip and then deleting my character just to follow the same exact motions i did last time, my autistic itch to explore every single crevice 3 times over and pick up every single thing is gone. i spent fucking like 3 hours in the repconn facility just making sure i got everything i needed (and everything i picked up was just like misc crafting junk shit), and then when i wanted to start owb for the player housing, i literally walked (around 12000 pounds overencumbered) from that goodsprings trailer with the 2 metal boxes to the mojave drive in because i wanted to bring all my shit with me
anyway, now that i feel i can actually play the game without being railroaded into the same thing every time like an autist, this is my build

>wild wasteland and logans loophole
>cripple my head at the beginning of the game, can't use doctors unless its to heal rads (can't trust them), can only use doctors bags to heal limbs (but can't heal head)
>terrifying presence/sneering imperialist
>drugged out of my skull at all times, smoking, drinking as well
>have a gambling issue, whenever i'm on the strip, i more often than not enter a casino and either spend all of my caps or only leave once i've made at least 1000 caps
>basically just act unhinged and aggressive whenever possible
>low cha, luk and per//high str and end//mid int
>do all quests violently
>ignore any quests that don't lead to benny, make killing him first priority and generally act even more ruthless than usual in any dealings pertaining to him
also generally don't pick up as much, limit myself only to clothes/armor that i'm currently wearing and limit weapons to a knife, sidearm and main weapon, stay at novac hotel
any ideas on fun playthroughs, lads?
