The problem with this is unless the gameplay is designed in such a way to make physical combat interesting over a long period, pure melee characters become boring in 30 minutes whereas INT mages generally have more flexibility and can do not only direct damage but utility and other misc actions thus being more interesting.

For STR characters, you can safely get away from most threats with enough strikes and endurance.
For INt characters, you need to plan out what you're going to do or be witty enough to talk your way out of the situation in order to survive. Normally this means you can instakill anything with proper prep time, but if you fuck up you fuck up bad.

I think it varies from species to species but it's not really a complex thing like if you put your hand on a hot stove and reel it away you know never to touch it again, a bug is more like walk onto a hot stove, immedietly scram because of danger and might run into it again.
