Yes. For all the games and spinoffs in the series, it's just one long bore of a story. There's nothing mythical about it. The main spoiler for 0 just takes some thought based on the cover.

I'll admit, this is my first Yakuza game. However, I absolutely love beating the shit out of people. I give Stomping Sim 2017 a 9/10.

it's pretty great but it has it's issues. heres a few examples:
>the game uses all the cutscene animations from the original meaning that movements are floaty and lip syncing is a bit shit
>the dragon of dojima style can only be upgraded by fighting majima. if you want to have the style fully upgraded you have to dedicate hours to just majima fights
>instead of fixing some of the worse bosses they just take boss fights from the rest of the entries that match the characters
its still a fun game but not as good as 0

Yakuza 5 has the best Kiryu chapter and great ending of it (beating the whole clan on his own). It was the hypest shit ever. Other parts of the game weren't that great, but still pretty decent except for the annoying idol dancing.

Yakuza 3 is great, the orphanage is breath of fresh air but it can be a drag in replays, you'll enjoy it after playing 1 and 2. 3's problems is the story going full retard near the end.

Also 3 has excellent boss fights. So far Mine is my favorite boss.

It's completely optional once you're done with chapter 6. You're really missing out considering the only thing you get from it is Kiryu's style from the previous games.

Still has basic combat, although Majima is probably the most enjoyable the series has been from a combat perspective.

Story had super obvious twists and turns other than when Lee dies.

Honestly surprised it reviewed as well as it did since it's not that far removed from other games in the series.

My problems with this game:
>too fucking grindy
>combat isn't that great, lacking things like animation canceling for most styles and challenge relies on fake difficulty like bosses popping off super armor attacks in the middle of your uncancellable attacks and basically everything about those Amon fights
>most of the side stories weren't that great
>Kiryu's story suffered from last minute antagonist who really wasn't a big part of the story until he suddenly becomes super important towards the end, Majima's story was better but honestly Makoto should have died, would have had a way bigger emotional impact

That was kind of the point.

He's established as being a covert schemer who acts in the shadows- striking only when the time is right. I thought it was clever they reflected that through his through his role in the story, since you never expect him to be the final boss.

The fact that he was a capable tactician made him more threatening than the other two lieutenants, as well.
