Playing them was long ago for me. Nostalgia might be speaking but they were pretty funny and had proper gameplay. I can recall having fun with them, you'll have to try it out yourself.

This is probably the best TT LEGO game. There's something about Star Wars that just works for them. I didn't like The Force Awakens as a movie, but I thought the LEGO game was the best one in years.
The way it goes is you play through the lvel first in story mode as the characters who were in that scene in the movie, then you get to go back in free mode as any character you've unlocked and mop up the collectibles. You can't get everything the first time you play a level.

As far as the rest of the series goes, just grab whatever game you like the license for (and LEGO City Undercover). Except Lord of the Rings, that one has a lot of weird design decisions and bad levels.
