It was decent.
I enjoyed playing for the most part it but it felt too long.

It was a once playable, decent experience with some platforming which can get boring. The artstyle and music are 10/10 though, one of my personal favourites. The underwater city is one of the best places in gaming.

This is Cut content - The Game.
The game is a good experience overall, and has very good and Fun parts (Like the Castle in the Sky and the Vale of Tears). But it feels always Clunky and Unfinished thank s ro EA rushing the game and cutting content.
The Music, Visuals and Artstyle is 11/10. And Dollhouse is the best level.

The gameplay was bland, repetitive and tedious. It dragged on and on making you wish it would just fucking end already; and constantly the narrative would build up to a climax, only to end abruptly and shunt you off to the next area without a boss fight. There's only one boss in the game and it's shit.

Aesthetically though? Fucking 10/10. The music was above-average for a western-published title, technologically/graphically it was a treat, and in terms of visual design it was out of this world. Shame about the atrocious gameplay. If you took the art design and outsourced the actual game development to someone like Platinum Games, Capcom or Fromsoft it'd be a must-have title, but Spicy Horse being inexperienced and EA being generally a mob of cunts kinda hobbled its prospects from the outset.

That wasn't an issue, the plans they had for the game were actually good and filled the game, EA cutting development time while also requiring the game to be as long as originally planned forced them to take bad decision due to lack of time to develop better ones.
A good 80% of what's missing or feels wrong in the game is due to EA

The atmosphere and art design's pretty fantastic, but the platforming sections start to feel pretty drawn out, and there are very few boss battles to mix things up.

As long as you don't play on the hardest difficulty then the gameplay is fine.
The game is already fairly long, and the higher difficulty just makes each fight last longer, rather than harder.

It´s pretty damn good. The first one is really good as well.

I thought the theme of Wonderland being her coping mechanism for things she's tried to repress and figure out was part of the appeal, but I guess they've pretty much wrapped up that arc in Madness Returns.

that's true for the DLC weapons/dresses, but for the first game you still need to download the files for it separately.
Also, that's valid only for the Steam version, which doesn't come with the original game.
If you have the Origin version, you already have the original game(even cause that's where the files for the original game to patch into the steam version come from, they're different than the original retail version of the 1st game)

It's good but unfinished. The first half is awesome but then it starts to become really bland and repetitive in the second half. There were lots of mechanics that never made it into the game because it ended being rushed to marker.
