Why do people hate Mario Sunshine?
>had the graphics for its time
>good relaxing music
>relaxing feel to the game but tense at some parts
>story was good and amusing
>cool areas
>why do people hate Mario Chibi Robo edition?
I wonder why
>story was good and amusing
What? The story was poor and the voice acting and cutscenes were trash.
Personally, it just feels like an inferior, watered down (hurr hurr) Super Mario 64 to me.
>about half as many major levels
>much less freedom in progression (can only get the shine you pick on the menu so have to do them in order, have to get 7th shine in all major levels)
>less focus on exploring levels, so the open level design really doesn't make much sense (game shows you where to go in the level intro after you pick the shine, can only do the shine you pick)
>one fifth of the game's content being the shitty blue coins
>more lazy 8 red coin missions
>more lazy rehashing of content (probably 8 or so goop piranha fights with no notable differences, 3 gooper blooper fights with no notable differences, etc.)
>most of the difficult parts are difficult due to being a gimmick section with strange physics or controls (watermelon festival, steering boat by spraying water, moving lilypad by spraying water while going down poison stream, pachinko, flipping all the tiles the right way in the casino)
>use of FLUDD is pretty basic and uncreative for the most part, they could have done more with the concept, especially if they'd had a major ice level where water could have functioned in new ways, or a major lava level (as in, a full level with multiple shines) with various things that water could affect
I don't hate it, though, it's just one of the weakest 3D Marios for me, and every time I replay it it gets weaker.

This post summarises my feelings pretty well, it's not shit but i do think it's the weakest entry in the 3d franchise, same with Wind Waker really
Mario controls like shit, a lot of bullshit levels

This anon summed most of my feelings up.
People can post webms of speedrunners going nuts with the movement mechanics all they want, but it doesn't make up for how a majority of the games missions are just poorly designed and at odds with the open level design. As well as the lack of variety and blatant filler.
Sunshine feels like a game released outright unfinished because of deadlines

>instead of various themed worlds, everything had the same tropical theme
>voice acting was bad, even for the era
>felt like a rehash of 64 but with forced FLUUD usage
>much more linear than 64 with less worlds and more annoying collect-a-thon BS (blue coins were garbage); this is especially so since this game came out after DK64 and collect-a-thons were receiving a huge backlash at the time
>still no Luigi; Yoshis melt in water
>story had no real sense or urgency or grandeur; this is especially noticeable in the Bowser battles and Bowser stage
>Bowser Jr. was annoying
I'm a chuckster!

This.
Same reason SMB1 and SMB3 are better than World
When it's good it's really good, but it has even more padding than Wind Waker. iirc over a third of the shines come from blue/red coin hunting

It had too much fuck you game design. Blue coins are an abomination. Half the special stages don't even work properly. A lot of Gamecube games had this "it's just a prank bro" mentality now that I think about it.
