Eternal Darkness was a decent 6.5/10 game. The sanity mechanic was just a gimmick with no real impact on gameplay, the combat was functional but boring hack and slash, and the magic system underutilized except for a few moments throughout the game and having to wait for your mana to recharge was tedious and pointless. Still, the story, characters, settings, music, and visuals are good enough to experience once.

Another overrated gem is Breakdown. Ugly visuals, terrible FPS controls and action, and samey enemies. The hand to hand combat is good though and so were some of the storytelling elements and the environment interactions, but the "10/10 this game is perfect" praise this game gets seems to completely ignore the bad parts.

The sanity meter was a cool as hell of a concept but it should have played more important role in the game. There was also something about the general mood of the game that was lacking compared to other horror games.

This was an amazing story to go through. Almost every description of something you examined was well written. Every voice actor did superb, the OST was fantastic and PARGON.

It definitely could use polish but I'd put it as one of the best gamecube exclusives. It's a damn shame nothing was done with the series after it.
