The game will bombard you with plots when you reach the city, and it really starts to pick up when you figure out whats going on with those.

Yes it does, definetly worth to keep playing as there will be some interesting consequences to your actions.
Also combat becomes fun once you start to unlock new abilities and discover sign combinations.
I found it to be an allround better game then 2 and 3.

If you're 18 and only started gaming on a 360, then you'll hate it. The game is dated and clunky, but it has a lot of charm.

The environments and music feel distinctly eastern european, and the monster design is pretty unique if you're only used to Tolkien-inspired fantasy. The story is weirdly paced. You only get a couple of quests at the beginning, and they require a lot of backtracking and wandering around. Then, once you get to the city, you will literally not be able to keep track of all the quests you get.

Just enjoy the game for its atmosphere and feel. Allow yourself to get immersed and start enjoying the story. It's worth playing.

Not the best game i ever played, the combat (FUCKING CLICKING)and inventory/potion system was a mess, but the story was interesting (for it's time) and i had a minor but memorable "Oh shizzle muh dizzle" moment near the end.

Anyway, the game really picks up when you get to Vizima, consider the outlaying village as an extended tutorial for the most part (even if it does get kind of neat towards the end). The game tanks again when you get to the swamp, from there it's pretty great consistently.

Plus the area you go to after swamps is seriously comfy, with rolling fields of wheat and pleasant beach areas.

Then there is Act IV which is absolutely amazing and worth enduring the game as it is.

Okay, you can pirouette still in W1 by hitting a movement key twice in any direction. It either negates damage entirely or gives you a damage reduction bonus, I forgot which. You won't be dispersing groups but it will help get you out of a bind if you need to. Make sure to switch styles constantly depending on the enemy types and when they group up on you. Always go for group style if they gangbang you. Other than that, fartblasting is the way to go so you're on the right track there but Igni deals a lot of damage too when you get it later.

Also be sure to make use of potions and bombs when you need them. They are absolutely crucial in W1.

Witcher 1 is a hybrid of a classic CRPG and a modern ARPG. Combat mechanics are actually like a CRPG but it just looks like an ARPG, which jukes everyone into thinking it's just like their console buttonsmashers. This is why so many tears by console kiddies have been shed regarding this game.
On the other hand the tempo of the game and the underlying mechanics aren't quite that of a classic CRPG, but somewhat closer to a modern ARPG instead.

combat actually becomes quite enjoyable later in the game. the combat is only bad if you are expecting an in depth ARPG, i mean the game was originally gonna be top down in earlier incarnations. and if you've played rpgs like kotor or NWN the combat is par for the course.

inventory/potion system was the best out of all the games because it wasn't weight based shit and it was intuitive- you press a button, the inventory comes up, it's an overlay, you can still see what's going on. in TW2 and TW3 you open an inventory UI that is designed for consoles and has pointless animations. they have weird transitions that mean the inventory menu opens like 1 second after you press the button. it's infuriating UI design and TW1 UI was way better.
