I'm confused about what is happening.

Will the game itself be deleted from my steam library or will people just not be able to purchase it anymore?
>>
>>376789386
Music licensing issues, but it's gonna be 3 bucks, plus discounts on the dlc and sequel.
>>
>>376789497
Those who have it will keep it but it will no longer be available for sale.

REMOVE ALL KIKES
>>
>>376789497
Just won't be able to purchase. Same thing happened to Vice City some years ago, and it was temporarily removed, before being added back without those music pieces. Maybe they will do the same for Alan

Apparently
This could happen to any of our games, this is why physical releases are needed, remember scott pilgrim, may that game rest in fondly remembered pieces.
>>
>>376789593
From what I understand, it's every single song license that is expiring, not just certain ones.
>>
>>376789451
Yes, but it's too late for that, for now at least. They could just release it again months later, without the licensed music.
>>
>>376789604
Usually you don't give a shit when the game is on a disc, don't plan on making more copies in 5 years, and the artist doesn't want the devs to loophole some shit and keep using their music without paying.
>>

Licensing truly is the cancer killing the digital industry. I sure love having nothing but the first 8 seasons of a 15 season series on Netflix because EU.

The game has cutscenes which are just video files, with the sound mixed on top. Muting the music would involve muting the voices and sound effects too, unless they still have the original audio assets in their seperated form.
>>
>>376790280
I would think that the masters are preserved even if only to reuse just in case. Isn't that standard industry practice?

>>
>>376790427
Not at all. Entire source code frequently goes missing, let alone individual art assets. The Silent Hill HD remasters for example were garbage partly because the final source code had been lost, so they had to base them on bug-ridden beta code. Remedy didn't even bother re-mastering the cutscenes when the PC port first arrived, ripping the 720p videos straight from the 360 version, so who knows whether those assets still existed even then, let alone now.

Plus there's the cost involved of course, even if they do still have that stuff. Replacement music would need to be found and stitched in, with the video re-rendered and inserted. Probably not worth the hassle, financially-speaking.

Tons, including tracks from far bigger artists like David Bowie, Nick Cave, Roy Orbison and Depeche Mode. Probably real expensive to license that stuff.

Thats because they're just watchdogs, trained to "counter" at the first signs of any /pol/ activity, or what can be considered /pol/ activity(obvious unironical racism, bigotry, etc.)

A while ago some anon posted a reddit screenshot in which someone explained the tactic to someone else, "show presence when you encounter it and post image macros instead of replies or use the same replies as your opponent. Don't get upset and drawn in, just keep posting. Presence is all that matters" Or something like that.
Iirc the screenshot even said something about a folder thats provided for macros.

So don't be surprised when you see immediate anti-pol image replies once someone says something "insensitive" these days on /v/.

I don't feel good about having a good reason to pirate shit for the sake of preservation. It shouldn't BE a reason to pirate. Same. Was in a rut with games like 3 months ago and I replayed it. The story just an enjoyable ride all the way through.

I may be bias because I love Stephen king shit, though,
>>
>>376797178
To be honest, that's all I want out of a game anymore. I just don't expect a good game anymore because the likelihood that a company can figure its shit out enough to make a good game is progressively more and more unlikely nowadays. Look at the Souls series, they fucking crank out 4 fucking games and by DaS3 the only game felt "perfect" was Bloodborne, which somewhat carried over the same mechanics.

Not to mention a good story. So if I can get a good story and passable gameplay that doesn't want to make me throw the computer/console across the room I'm good for it. I love Witcher 3 and Nier:Automata but I won't tell anybody that the gameplay is anything more than passable.

Alan Wake is a piece of crap

you might as well buy one of the crappier Silent Hills that came after 4
>>
>>376795162
I bought this on day 1 (pc version) and didn't get around to playing it until last year. Ended up loving it and regret not playing it sooner. Now from this news I love this collectors ed even more.

My men, Alan Wake is one of my favourite games of all time. I remember when my dad(who's a huge King fan) bought it cheap for his console when I was at his place and we just spend the entire night playing it together and loving every single moment of it. I bought it for myself immediately when the PC version was released. Great story, great atmosphere, great music, it's probably one of the main things that made me a horror fan myself. I'm still salty that season 2 got cancelled and now this happens.

God damn it I hate how fucking everything is a part of great corporation moloch drowning in bureaucracy this days. Why can't things be just art any more?
>>
>>376799779
Can't you just add mp3's of those songs to the folder for the Custom Radio station?
>>
>>376800191
I would, but right now I'm replaying it on mobile version. I travel a lot and even with touch controls it's miles better than all those shitty phone games. So I doubt it's possible without heavily fucking with the game files via PC, which I have no experience in.

To anybody contemplating buying it in the firesale, it's a good play, but know upfront that it is NOT a horror game, it's a slower paced and more atmospheric third-person shooter.

what the fuck is music licencing?
isn't it same with movies?
i used your music, i paid for it. that's it.
do (((they))) remove music from movies too? what's the point of this?
>>
>>376800382
Damn that sounds comfy as fuck. I am almost glad there isnt a sequel. Lately all the games I like get fucked up sequels.
>>
Being open-world could've really made you comfy as a truck drivan sim, if you had to hop in your jeep and go drive to locations instead of teleport to them. Wilderness surrounding town could update to get spoopier as The Darkness took hold, too.

But the 360 wouldn't have been able to run it.

And I guess offroading wouldn't have as much pull as, say, GTA's open world filled with the opportunity to carjack and run over pedestrians. And people would bitch about crashing their car against a tree and being stuck out there like a dumbass who wrecked his car against a tree...
>>
>>376800649
Usually I would agree, but they releases some videos of the unreleased sequel few years back and they looked pretty damn great. And seeing how ambiguous the ending was I would really like to see a continuation. On the other hand, Twin Peaks gets a reboot, so who knows, perhaps they will ride the wave?

>i used your music, i paid for it. that's it.
You'd be very dumb to let someone use your music in their product forever for a one time payment, unless you're getting a tons of money upfront. It's a lot cheaper to instead negotiate "I'll pay you $X to use for the rights to use your music in my game for the next Y years," Until digital distribution took off, that'd be fine because few games are popular enough to get reprinted after a few years (and there they could renegotiate and pay more money if needed), and the licensing wouldn't matter for people buying second-hand copies of the game. Hiring people to make music for your game's soundtrack avoids this issue, because you count as the copyright holder, so you can obviously approve the music being put into re-releases, remakes, sequels, and so on. Rockstar has enough money to pay for licensed tracks on GTA games' radio (with the exception cited earlier of San Andreas getting a few songs removed), as does EA with the music in their sports games, but most game companies aren't as big as EA or Rockstar

>isn't it same with movies?
Movie studios have tons more money than most game companies, they could afford "I'll pay you $X money and I can use your song in my movie forever" type deals, or agree to give them a share of the profits. I wouldn't be surprised if the big movie studios negotiate for access to an entire music label's library, instead of a director having to ask permission for each song they want to use.

Too bad they chose such a dumb time for the launch

You forgot to specify that it sold at -90%.

It's 13th and the sale isn't active yet.

No, they are actually patching it to remove the music.
>>
>>376805762
Steam doesn't update for another 4.5 hours. It'll probably go on sale then
>>
>>376801050
Originally it was meant to be open world and I agree it would have been better for it.
>>
>>376789191
It wasn't scary, fun or interesting in my opinion. A complete wank fest to Steven King, who's an alright writer. If it was marketed as an action adventure I'd be more kind on it. Not an awful game but simply boring.

You must be honest with me. Are these any good?

>Shit game removes itself from steam
>>
>>376807241
Open world always loses grip on the story, which is why a lot of people din't like Niko in GTA 4. In a different game, he's a good character, but when he stops talking about his misery and goes on to rampage throughout the town, it loses its force.
Or the Skyrim example. "This massive elder dragon is going to destroy the world. You don't have much time!"
Several in-game years later, everything is still the same.
>>
>>376789191
Man, this game was fucking awesome.
>>
>>376807297
Sounds like the issue is your expectations, not the game.

First one is pretty cool on all points except combat.
