It's really 'artificial' it's available everywhere but NA and it's only limited in NA becuase Nintendo underestimated demand and getting new shipments through US ports is slow as fuck, Air cargo is fast and is where all units are currently coming from, but it's also limited and rather expensive.

The real issue here is why Nintendo don't offer a drop-ship service to retailers, ie. if the Retailer covers the total shipping cost, Nintendo will sell them a container load straight from the factory, the retailer can use their own distribution networks to get it into the country quicker than Nintendo ever could.

It takes a month and a half just to ship shit across the Pacific and distribute it. It takes longer than that to increase production (do you imagine factories are just sitting idle, waiting for a call from Nintendo? They need to lease time on factories).

It's not a Nintendo-only issue, either. The PS4, PS2, and PSVR were all sold out longer than the Switch has been. Even apple has supply issues for certain phones, and they're a giant. Estimating demand and manufacturing just the right amount is, in fact, pretty hard.

Although, according to the WSJ, Nintendo decided to double production in early March. But if they made the decision then, I'm not expecting us to see the results on store shelves before June.
