Just finished Super Mario Galaxy 2. What is the general consensus

The gameplay/level design of 2 is objectively better than 1. The only thing 2 lacks is cute space waifu plot and hub world, but nonetheless, they are both great games.

Better designed but not as memorable.

I prefer 2 over 1 but they're both pretty great. I prefer 64 & Sunshine over them though.

I don't like the changes they made to the formula. The levels may be better designed but part of the fun of galaxy is being able to fuck around, check out under planets for bonuses and break the game with the spinjump.

I was able to see that 2 was more polished, but 1 was mindblowing and got me on an emotional level that 2 never reached.

SMG2 is the better game gameplay wise. It has more to give than 1, that I am sure of.

But SMG1 had more impact and novelty value. Of course that's expected since it was really unique, and the music was incredible, not to mention the story is a little more deeper than the average Mario game.

fucking amazing game. i love it just as much as the first IMO. I kinda prefer it maybe because it's much tighter and less repetitive.

As someone who's played 2 but not 1, will I find 1 bland with it's supposedly 'objectively inferior levels'?

I 'beat' super mario galaxy 2 recently as well, but didn't do the green stars.

The rest of the game was fun but the green star challenge really fucks up how great the rest of the game is...

MG2 felt like they ticked things up a notch, so I prefer it to MG1.

If someone plays 2 first (like me) they most likely won't like 1 as much gameplay wise (like me again) although Galaxy 1 had that storybook thing so that's something

It's funny, I 100%'d Galaxy 1, but got up to like 80 stars in Galaxy 2. Yoshi was awesome and the game was good. For some reason though, it just didn't have that hook for me.

100% Galaxy 1 and 2. I preferred the first game. The second game was more polished with a few new tricks. It looked a lot more colorful than Galaxy 1 and was much more upbeat.

1 has better atmosphere but 2 has better level design and difficulty curve. Considering this is a Mario platformer, I have to say that 2 is the better game for being superior at the right things.

I'm glad they got rid of the annoying hub world.

It made SMG2 better than SMG1 for me.

The level design is really good, and individually they play really well. However, SMG1 had a better hub world, better OST, and better overall atomosphere to the game. SMG2 didn't quite have the same "space" or "out-of-this-world" themes that Galaxy 1 did.
