The neat thing about the characters in SMT is that their ultimate fate was conflict. None of this "power of friendship" stuff. Friendship is always sacrificed to something greater.

Also, the grinding in SMT is better than the grinding in Persona anyway.

I love the Megaten series. I have tried to get into other franchises, but their gameplay is never as compelling or fun.
The only one which is as good is Etrian Odyssey.

FF and DQ exist so whether its the best is a hard question because all of them have what can considered to be the best JRPG's of all time. It all comes down to personal preference or consistency in quality eg. FF pre 13.

fusion adds another layer to the whole collection aspect, giving it more depth than something like pokemon
battle mechanics are more fun in basically any SMT than any Final Fantasy too
They're all really long, engrossing, fairly challenging, and fun games

There is mostly lore about the world and the towns, but the game is mostly gameplay.

The Untold remakes do have it though, but in my opinion the story only gets in the way and I prefer to stick to the classic mode.
