A meme game that runs like shit and is in early access.
>>
I love this game but everytime I play it, I run into a bug that makes me stop playing for awhile.
I seriously love it. Can't wait for release.
>>
>>376773491
How is it a "meme game"?
>>
>>376773908
By being a game that he doesn't like.
Which really means by being a video game.
>>
Does it still do that thing where getting into a seamoth that's docked in a cyclops teleports you back to where you docked it?
>>
Yeah too bad the game is too poorly optimized to play properly without constant hitching and stuttering as it loads new chunks of map into the game
>>
>>376773908
Its youtuber bait.

I've already seen countless youtube videos with titles like

>SCARY ALIEN OCEAN GAME Pt. 1 This is kinda like minecraft....

etc.

>>376773984
I do like the game, but it runs like shit and it really isn't worth buying right now. I don't know if it will ever be. Right now it feels like all Early Access games feel like, a scam.
>>
>>376774007
I never had that problem. How recent was that?
>>
>>376774007
It did that? never happened in my game.

>>376774015
It's funny, the performance problems seem to be very individual. Some people with toasters have no problems, some people with cutting edge rugs have all sorts of problems. The only times I get problems are around the Mushroom Forests.
>>
>>376774215
I don't see how youtubers latching onto makes the game itself bad. It just makes you look like a hipster.

The game does run kind of shit, but its definitely improving. The stuttering made it unplayable like 6+ months ago.
>>
>>376774215
>people I hate on a website I hate do something with a video game, that means the game is totally <insert overused /v/ word here>!

So every game ever made is a meme game, then.
>>
>>376774251

It really is like, 30 seconds of 60fps silky smoothness followed by 4 seconds of complete hitching and stuttering.

It's not enough to make me hate the game, but it's enough for me not to be able to play it.
>>
Where even is the entrance to the lost river/lava zone? I feel like I've drove around in the cyclops for days and never actualy found it. I ended up using teleport commands just so I could look at it.
>>
>>376774378
Fair enough.
>>376774382
I can never fucking find the entrances to the cool zones. I think I found one but it was too small for a cyclops and too deep for my unupgraded seamoth.
>>
>>376774217
>>376774251
Maybe it only happens in VR since it skips getting in and out animations.
I last played it 2 months ago and it was doing it.
>>
>>376774476
>>376774382
There's two entrances right now, one in the Deep Grand Reef and one in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone. The Cyclops can get into both but the BKZ entrance is much easier to get into with it.
>>
>>376774476
The only zone I can find consistently is the jelly caves. And I only recently found the little cave by the seaweed shit that leads down into a jelly shroom area with a filter and moonpool stuff. I mean, it's good that I'm still finding new stuff it's just I wish I knew how to get to the damn disease research area and the lava caves.
>>
I made my cyclops and my base and stopped playing. It's sitting there waiting for more content before I use it.

I hope my save still works after all these updates.
>>
>>376774769
How long ago did you stop and is any part of your base built where it auto-terraformed the environment?
>>
>>376774769
I did the same thing and ended up making a new save anyway. I think the old save still works though.
I'll make another new save on release.
>>
>>376774608
Cool. I guess il deal with the crabsquids some more and try to find the bloodkelp one next time I'm in game. Thanks.
>>
>>376774913
Right before the little walker update. I built it on pretty flat ground, so hopefully nothing like that happened.
>>
I can never settle on a location I like for my base. How do you guys pick?
>>
LOD update fucking when?
The leviathans are too small in the distance
>>
>>376775058
My save was before that and still works so you should be fine unless a future update fucks you.
>>
>>376775075
I picked right where I fucking began because everything else was too scary.
>>
>>376775153
Shit I meant FoV
>>
>>376775058
The PRAWN update? Damn, that was a long time ago. It should still work, the saved games update with the new information now.

>>376775075
I usually build my main base inside the Giant Tree Cove in the Lost River, next to the thermal vents on the ILZ route side and facing the tree. So relaxing watching the Ghostrays swimming around.
>>
>>376771893
It's not as scary if you can see the whole thing lit up like a goddamn nightlight. A deep sea reaper in the night is the stuff of horrors.
>>
If I think Minecraft and survival games are snoozeworthy, would I enjoy this game? What's the goal?
>>
>>376775075
I always make my primary base on the edge of the shallows facing the aurora. Mostly because I make a few trips to the aurora and I like looking at the grassy area. Been thinking I should put it on the other side or closer to facing the mountain so I don't have to maneuver the cyclops around the whole shallows coming back from the grand reef. But that's just the primary base/aquarium. I also have a few bases scattered around just to unload for when I'm still in a seamoth only.
>>
>>376775431
thats the problem with survival games. There's nothing that makes them a game.

I always end up building around the thermal vent in the Safe Shallows close to the crash zone. It's by the surface for early game power, the vent itself connects to the kelp forest caves and is filled with silver, the thermal vent provides a constant source of energy for late-game power intense shenanigans, and you have a central location to top it all off.
>>
>>376775431
You probably won't like it. You kind of make your own goals for now, but eventually it's going to be "get off the planet" and there are steps you must do to leave. So there will be a structured goal at some point, but now it's just lazily scanning things, avoiding big things, making aquariums for the fish, building bases, and generally exploring the landscape.
>>
>>376775431
I don't even play with hunger and thirst on.
Managing my air supply while I scour ruins is fun. Hunting for upgrades and new species is fun.
Exploring alien buildings is fun.
Building a comfy base and customizing it is fun.

I think I'm more excited about the creature updates that are coming.
Hopefully the Sea Dragon won't look like a total fuck face when it can express anger and roar. I think it would be better if they could make movements of the tentacles like a squid with bursts of speed.

Ever since the Crag Field was added I biuld my base there, usualyl in the shelter of a twisted rock spire or where there's a tunnel through a spire. Lots of resources especially titanium and quartz, right next to the Grand Reef and by extension the Lost River entrance, close to Floating Island, and it's overall a really cool biome. Bonesharks can be annoying but they die easily and quickly to knives and Seamoth zaps.
>>
>>376776148
I personally can't wait for an update that introduces more threats to your base. The cyclops had an update like that so I really want a base update like that.
I really want something to be able to sneak in your base or there to be base defenses but I doubt that's gonna happen.

The devs have said they're going to make bases subject to creature attacks as well. From what I remember the larger you make it the more likely it is to be attacked and/or if it makes a lot of noise from things like water filters, power plants, and other noisy machinery. They're also going to make base defense systems, what they are is unknown right now.

Since the Ghost Leviathan is nearly done I'm hoping they work on and finish this guy next, since he was pretty far along when they removed terraforming. All they'd need to do is have it punch apart Large Deposits and destroy the movable rocks, and it can be one of the threasts to your base, just saunter up and start whacking at it.
>>
Anyone else been getting issues with this game lately. I got a craving to play for the first time in 1-2 months after seeing this thread but the game exited back to windows 10 times over the coarse of 10 minutes with no error message. I have no memory of this ever happening before.

>>376776013

I think managing your air supply can make shit more. Like when I am exploring a maze like cave then get lost and turned around and lost trying to make it back to my sea moth. My heart starts pounding my latent irl fear of death by suffocation kicks in; then I make it back just as I completely run out of air.

And this is from back when the cyclops could only go down to 1500, I went to max depth off the edge of the map, then spam another 20m down and built my base into the cliff wall dropping away into the abyss.

The light does strange things down here, not that there are 2 spotlights on this view sphere whose light isn't visible beyond 20m. Sitting in that chair for any amount of time and staring out into the blackness is unnerving.

That dome and the small tunnel entrance are the only parts of the base that stick out from inside the cliff face.

This is the cyclops at that depth.
>>
I wish the bags could hold a block or three more space than they took up. I can't even think of a use for them other than base decoration since you have to drop them to get back inside it and you are better off just leaving your items outside of it.
>>
>>376778478
I never saw a use for those, the floating chest, and the pipes.
>>
>>376778609
Floating chest is nice for early game storage when you are building a base. And I imagine the pipe works for exploring caves. Useless beforehand since you had to pipe from surface. But with a base pump you could use it as a guidance sustem of sorts.
>>
>>376774251
The only universal performance problems is the more items or resources you grab from the sea floor and use the more performance takes a hit. Have a save thats literally unplayable after building one large base and to test the persons suggestion of using console to make shit made the same layout base and have no issues at all.
>>
>>376774769
They normally work but you don't get access to the new added areas. Atleast that's how it used to be, I took a break since before the prawn and am trying it since now the cyclops can be attacked. A lot more fun when there's actually a threat to you.
>>
>>376778787
Not that guy, but I really have never used pipes at all either, and I have like 500 hours in the game.

The window for their use is so small it's just pointless to bother, once you get a seamoth you can just jump in to re-air, and you can fit it into almost every cave system, or barring that just seaglide to the nearest seamoth. Pipes seem like installing a solid infrastructure to go places you will never need to visit more than once. On top of that, the ability to stack air tanks means you can have like 3 minutes of air, which again ekes out the pipes only purpose with much more adaptability.

I wish the Leviathan class creatures didn't look so dragon-like, it's so cheesy and cliché. The Crabsquid is probably the best looking creature and that's because it looks like it actually belongs in the deep sea.

There's a really cool effect with the Ghost Leviathan. When it gets a certain distance away the translucent jelly part of its body fades out so you can only see the more solid interior structure, and as it gets closer the rest of it fades into view, like an actual ghost.
>>
>>376779184
Oh no doubt they are not very good, I'm just guessing at potential use. Like having a guide line in a cave you frequent like a dive reel alternative. I don't really use them either.

I start to get some crazy anxiety when I look out into the blackness.

It's why 99% of the base is inside the cliff, even if you can't tell from the inside, psychologically I know it's safer, and I have watertight hatches on the tunnel that leads to the cliff face and to the view bubble.

This is the view of the base from inside the cliff, I have a hatch in the back that glitches me through the wall and I can swim around inside the rock.

All the materials for this, and all the aquariums and reactors inside it, were brought down in a dozen cyclops trips from the surface.
