It should be fine, although you can double check to make sure. The problem is both AMD and Nvidia assume that if you're using a 1080p HDMI display, it's a TV, so they default to typical TV settings. DVI and DisplayPort are monitor connections so they usually don't have this issue.

DL-DVI should be good for 120 Hz on a 1920x1200 display though. It's something on your monitor's end since it isn't intended to ever go past 60 Hz in normal use.

HDMI sucks that it's primary focus is on TV, although it is better than HDMI in terms of bandwidth. Just make sure you do the RGB fix I mentioned in the OP. DisplayPort is best, but not all monitors have it. HDMI will have FreeSync built in soon though which gives it a nice advantage, but no one knows when displays will include the proper ports.

It's probably limiting because the display manufacturer is saving money by not having the second link internally connected, since a single link is plenty for a 1920x1080@60 signal. Since unconnected links is a non-issue for HDMI, you're seeing better numbers.

DisplayPort is still superior though. It's free of legacy horseshit intended for shitty 80's CRT televisions, so you can just plug it in and it works without having to root through multiple menus to unfuck your image, and it has bandwidth for days.

No, overclocking is harmless, the thing that breaks processors is overvolting. Increasing the voltage increases heat, which decreases lifespan but increases the maximum clock speeds and performance. As far as I know there's no way to increase the voltage of monitors/TV's using software. Overclocking a monitor is 100% safe, just keep in mind some games may be unstable so you may have to revert back.

It depends. Single link definitely is. Dual link is about even with early specs of HDMI, the problem is most monitors have a single link DVI ports so even if you have a dual link DVI, you can't OC as high since they figure 1080p/60 is all you need. HDMI is advantageous then because it works the same on all displays, while dual link DVI works on some and doesn't work on others. If a monitor has DisplayPort use that, it's the best though.
