I'm the OP, and that image is exactly what I meant by single tile jumps over death pits, not single tile gaps between individual blocks like you're thinking. The keyword of "jumps" should be enough to imply that there's a large gap between each platform that requires you to, and this is the important part, JUMP from one platform to the next.
