What exactly went wrong with this Franchise?
Final Fantasy used to be my go to thing when I wanted to enjoy a fun, long adventure game with a weird twisting plot and memorable characters.
But now I play this game and feel nothing but disappointment, it's only like 20 hours making it the shortest FF game by far and has basically no plot or characters to speak of.
I mean it looks nice but outside of that it seems to be outdone by practically ever other franchise when it comes to the thing I care about.
What about FF16?
Will that be disappointing too?

Square-Enix doesn't have any competent directors left to work on FF. Sakaguchi left, Matsuno left, and Nomura is too busy making Kingdom Hearts. All the other directors are hacks.

Well the company is in charge of making the game and they've decided that the old way of making FF was outdated so they throw whoever they can in the directors seat.
Maybe if Nomura stayed it would've turned out differently but who knows, it could've been his choice to give it up directing but I doubt it.
I think they're wrong in thinking that turn-based games are over, something like Bravely Default still did really well despite it. (Although the brave system was fucked, which is a shame because conceptually it's really cool.)

And the list goes on and on. The game is the most cynical, vacuous example of design-by-committee AAA horseshit I've ever seen. It's just a giant empty souled clusterfuck.
