It takes 6 weeks just to ship shit from China. Then you have to get those to retailers via distribution centres. That's a 1.5 months gone already.

Then there's securing the necessary components for each Switch (screens, tegras, motion IMUs, etc). If any suppliers can't produce faster, that bottlenecks YOUR production. For example, Japan Display is providing all the Switch screens. Nintendo announced doubled production shortly after launch, so I presume all their suppliers are capable of meeting that target, but that doesn't mean they can ramp up production instantly.

Likewise, you can't ramp up manufacturing instantly. Do you imagine Nintendo can just press the TURBO BOOST button on their factory and have it pump out Switches faster? That's not how it works. Factories are always utilizing their full capacity. They can't lease time at other factories instantly, either. Factories don't sit idle. They're booked, and if you want them to fit you in, you need to wait. That typically takes at least 2 months.

This stuff isn't as simple as you make it out to be. Hence why Sony has had the same issues.

I got Breath of the Wild with the expansion pass(only made is as far as to getting the camera for the slate) Shovel Knight (never played it before until now, but i beat it) Snipperclippers, and Fast RMX. Best Buy employee here. We usually get a shipment of switches at least once a week, two weeks at max. Just call and ask what days the trucks come in, and stop by around 4 or 5 that day. I know that we had around 47 of them in stock one week, and they were there for quite a while. It's easy for an employee to check in the system to see if any other stores in the district have them, as well. We can't hold them for you, but a lot of people don't even know that the switches are constantly being restocked, so they end up sitting for a while. It's not uncommon for us to still have switches the day after we get them in, and I work in a college town. Just ask.
