20 years from now, is Minecraft going to be seen as one of the most influential games of all time?

Actually, I doubt it. Minecraft is it's own genre, unlike WoW which was hugely influental in a very broard genre, Minecraft will just be known as a unique timeless classic.

I don't think you quite understand how big Minecraft is. It's the second best selling game of all time after fucking Tetris. There's books, a movie in the works, toys, lego, clothes, etc, etc.
It's all kids these days play. Even the ones that don't play games. Thousands of streamers and YouTube channels, fan sites, forums, it's endless. It's an unstoppable force and it'll damn sure be remembered for a long time to come.
I wouldn't even care, but it's stopping kids from playing more (for lack of a better word) "focused" or "skill driven" games. I put my 12 year old nephew in front of other games over Easter and he couldn't play a single one of them for shit.
>is Minecraft going to be seen as one of the most influential games of all time?
That has already happened.
Sadly.

It's big but not influential.
Apart from inspiring a few spin offa it didn't had any influence.
Indie games and procedural generation were a thing before.
It forced the crafting gimmick into a lot if games I must admit but this will be flushed out again in the future I believe.

Probably. What would you consider the games that are currently considered to be "the most influential of all time"?
>>376638280
It definitely influenced more than just crafting in Terraria, but yeah, I think you're right.
>>376634920
how the fuck is there still no Minecraft 2 with better graphics and more shit to do
especially now that Microsoft owns it.

Yea

How did Notch make so much money off of something he would shill on /v/?
Even a big studio copied his idea with Dragon Quest Heroes.

Maybe not of all time but certainly for this last generation. The only other game that would come close from last gen would be Dark Souls. Demon's Souls wouldn't be the 2ed most "influential" series because being popular is more important to being "influential" than being the first to do something. Both Dark Souls and Minecraft (while both unoriginal) created genres.
I don't personally care for the game but because of it's success Dragon Quest Builders was made, so I'm happy it did well.
