You unlock monster classes in this one by completing quests which usually involve having a certain item or killing x enemies.

Just focus on one weapon type per character in the beginning. Later on there's faster ways to grind proficiency but even then there's still really no point to having a sub weapon on a character. It's not like you'll be switching between them often during combat.

Technically 1 and 2 have a small link because you get Etna in 2 as part of the main plot, but that's about it. DD2 should have been part of that story line as well, but for some reason they dropped nearly all call backs to the older games in is so you can't ignore it.

I started playing the PC port of D1.
It's fun. Should I play the second, or should I skip forward a few games so I don't get burned out? I remember hearing 2/3 aren't that great. I have a vita/psp/3ds.

games mechanics get refreshed for every game, at least until 4. If you don't plan to grind for completion end game for each game you can play them all.

You can play any of them but its generally harder to go back to previous ones after playing later entries. I'd suggest playing in order as they are all good in their own way. Just make sure you are playing the handheld or PC orts as they come with the most content.

How's the grinding for D5? I always liked the story of the series but never got to finish all post game contents due to all the compulsory grindings required.

I'm considering getting 5 on switch even though I already have it on PS4 but haven't finished it. Talk me out of or into doing it.

After replaying some of the game on the Switch it just re-confirmed my love for her, the voice actress really sells the character for me.

But going through the campaign again is kinda of a bore, what is the quickest way to break the game? In other Disgaeas you could level up an item and it'd be super strong and enable you to find better ones but in 5 lower level items level terribly in the item world.
