That's because it does have bloat and tedium. The game's charming and fun enough to get away with it for the most part. I enjoyed autistically making the most powerful pokemon I could in the velvet room. The day to day events and style. The bosses on high difficulty settings and without grinding the challenge away provide some real clutch moments and reward strategy and optimization.

That said, sweet lord have mercy you'll get tired of the cell phone spam every day and the battle system, as much as they gussied it up with crazy menus and transitions. I was ready to move on 3/4's into the game, but that's still a lot of time for a game to be engaging.
