>Mexico’s Federal Police yesterday intercepted a shipment of contraband goods headed for the US at Guadalajara Airport. Inside was not drugs, or weapons, but vials full of live spiders hidden inside what look like fake Famicom games.
>As Cronica report, authorities opened a box that contained ten cartridges with labels like Jurassic Park and Robocop 2. There were 73 tubes stashed inside the hollow top section of each plastic case, each one containing a live spider.
>The spiders were headed for Hanover, Maryland.

Reminder to always buy your Nintendo gear from official retailers otherwise you might get spiders?

I think it has more to do with the way terms have been used historically than anything else. It was normal for people to refer to blacks as "coloreds" or "colored people" in the context of "those people who are worse than us." Basically the same thing as nigger. No one's saying there is anything inherently evil about the sound waves produced when you say it, but there's a history behind it.

I was in a public restroom at some remote gas station in Northern California a few months back and saw a pretty big spider climbing on the wall behind the toilet while I was taking a piss. I considered kicking the spider but then worried that I might miss and that it would fall to the ground, climb up my shoes and into my pants, then bite me in the dick, and then I'd have to get my dick amputated.
>>
>>376621446
If you are a healthy adult with no allergies, there are no deadly spiders.
>>
>>376621646
Brown recluses aren't "pretty big," for one thing.

Second they are some very accurately named spiders. They are brown, and also reclusive. They avoid human contact if they can possibly help it and tend to stay in dark hidden places. 99% of the time when someone actually gets bitten by one it's because it was hiding in a glove they put on or something like that. You basically have to corner the spider and make direct contact with it before it will bite you. Otherwise it will just run away.

>They avoid human contact if they can possibly help it and tend to stay in dark hidden places

The public restroom that I was in was pretty damn dark, damp, dirty, and disgusting. The spider was big enough to be seen in the dark, but not bigger than a brown recluse spider.

>You basically have to corner the spider and make direct contact with it before it will bite you. Otherwise it will just run away.

I've had some terrible luck with arthropods in the past. I had a giant cockroach scaling up some curtains at the head of the bed that I was trying to sleep in while I was staying at some shitty old house in Mexico back in 2006, and the roach just randomly decided to fly down and unto my face. I don't understand what the hell their problem is. Do they wanna die?
>>
>>376622712
Roaches are completely different from brown recluse spiders. Those little shits don't give the slightest fuck about anything. They will walk right up to you, they think they are invincible. It's not that they wanna die it's just that evolution has made them so hardy that they are indifferent to death.

Much less likely to happen with a brown recluse, but even if one did start crawling on you, it would not bite you unless you did something to threaten it.
>>
>>376622592

>if bitten try to catch the spider so you can identify it

>>
>>376623029

I found a spider quickly scurrying across my bed the other morning, but it was too dark to tell what species it was. It seemed to be just the right size for a brown recluse spider. It managed to hide somewhere underneath my bed and I haven't had the balls to go looking for it. Why must they find it necessary to crawl across a surface on which a large mammal is sleeping on?

Where do you live? If the answer isn't somewhere in this line:
>The range lies roughly south of a line from southeastern Nebraska through southern Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana to southwestern Ohio. In the southern states, it is native from central Texas to western Georgia and north to Kentucky.[4][5]

Then it wasn't a brown recluse. Even if it was, it's unlikely to stay in an area that there's regular human activity around for long. They like isolated and undisturbed areas.

It's a rumor that gets thrown around constantly because of people's arachnophobia - they see any brown spider with a violin type marking on it and think it's a brown recluse. Local news outlets run stories there run away with it, never bothering to actually find out from experts if there's any real evidence for brown recluses in California, which there isn't.

So, my guess is either a crazy motherfucker, or some Johns Hopkins lab student working on strange and sinister medical experiments.

Spiders don't really scare me.

What do scare me though are wasps. Especially big black wasps which are seen in hotter areas of France. I was too afraid to leave my bed cover when a big black wasp flew into my room when it flew right out of the bathroom. The same wasp also was hiding under a towel next to the shower, and sprung right out when I was having a shower.

Fuck wasps.

>Despite its name, it is rare for the Goliath birdeater to actually prey on birds; in the wild, its diet consists primarily of earthworms and toads.[8] However, because of its size and opportunistic predatory behavior, it is not uncommon for this species to kill and consume a variety of insects and small terrestrial vertebrates. In the wild, T. blondi has been observed feeding on rodents, frogs, toads, lizards, and even snakes.[9]

I should have been more specific. They originate from a time when the prevailing attitude among Europeans was that Africans were a sub race or at the very least a different subspecies of human. They didn't originate as explicitly derogatory terms but the way they were used was from a position of racial superiority. The history that's bound up with them just has a lot of baggage.

In an ideal world the words would all just be words and it wouldn't matter, but that's simply not how human language works. Words get connotations as a natural part of their usage and you can never completely disentangle them from it.

In several areas, native scorpions are a significant enough predator of spiders to the point where the removal of scorpions result in a significant increase in spider population. Although it would probably be a bad idea to have them walking around the house and such.

Fuck that noise man, I live in Brazil and the time I feared for my life the most around here, believe me or not, was when I had a Yellow Scorpion infestation in my house, found like 20 of the fuckers over the course of a month and a friend of mine actually got stung by one this one time he slept here after a party, shit was not ok.

Unless you live in Texas

see pic, there was a ranch I used to go to with a friend that was basically fuckin Mirkwood
The space between the trees were draped with webs and there had to be atleast ~300 of these guys hanging around

We had to talk around with a stick and take the webs down while we walked and both of us eventually got covered in webs, its pretty terrifying

thankfully they are big but not aggressive and dont sting too bad either and control the other shit pretty well in that area

I have to wonder how they even found out something was wrong in the first place. In the absence of drugs for a dog to sniff, the only scenario I can imagine this find happening in was the Federales saw "video games" on the box and cracked it open intending to steal them, but then got spiders instead.

Funny enough. I was at an exotic pet shop today to put some money down on a baby cockatiel, and I checked out their insect/spider section

People are willing to pay 100-150 bucks for certain species of spiders. It's pretty nuts. I can definitely see why they'd be smuggling them.
>>
>>376620382
Brown Recluse are pretty bad though. Black Widows are stationary web spinners, the reason people get bit is because they like to be near the ground and people accidentally kick them up.

Brown Recluse are active hunters that move slowly and hide in a number of household objects. That makes them so much more harder to avoid.

I've got tons of wolf spiders in my house. The only good thing about them is if you leave them alone, they leave you alone.
>>
>>376622251
Wolf spiders are pussies though and give tarantula warning signs. They're also poor climbers
>>
>>376633276
It will in a few years. Negro and Black were once "neutral" terms.

Stop trying to legitimize the term anyway, its just another false term.
>>
>>376624916
Tarantula is any spider in the family Theraphosidae which makes up the majority of the worlds largest spiders.
>>
>>376618439
CUTE!
>>
>>376651040
They don't have venom fangs, but they're the only arachnid with a "throat" that lets them eat food in chunks rather than just suck the juices.
>>
>>376633276
Person of color just suggests that there is a difference between "whites" and people that aren't white

POC is also just a reference to skin color and not race, which honestly is probably more offensive than calling a black guy a nigger at this point
all this racebait shit is fucking delusional

Moths are not cute.
They are disgusting pests.
Do not trust moths, or they will infest your pantry and fly in your face every chance they get.

This is why spring cleaning is important. When my family finally moved into a house there were big spiders everywhere for a couple of days because we moved in as soon as the previous owners moved out.

When we repainted after taking at least 100 fucking nails out of the walls and putting dry wall putty in all the holes it created this sort of low grade fumigation where all manner of bugs in the vents and such crawled out and died.
It was weird opening up a completely sealed house with no sign of any kind of infestation and just dead bugs all over.
