I think it was more to do with the fact that it was an incredibly tedious, generic third person shooter that prioritised graphics over gameplay. And it's not like the story is even good either.

When this was first announced I was kinda looking forward to see a game like this where you fight in a Victorian setting against werewolves/vampires etc with crazy steampunk weapons.

I can't remember the exact interview but weren't the developers saying how they hated having to deal with actual gameplay, saying it gets in the way of the story? They can get fucked.
