I never understood the hate this mod gets.

Okay, yeah, the character models look like complete fucking ass. You are also given the option during install to not use them.

But as far as the scenery re-designs, I think they're okay and the mod does what it sets out to do. It takes liberties with the setting and tries to make it much more visually appealing and, guess what, cinematic.

It's made by an amateur german dude, I think. I played through it once and uninstalled, it was nothing spectacular but it was also not anything worth getting upset over.

Also, I may be completely wrong here, and I'd like to be corrected, but aren't you given an option on install to use a version of the mod that only updates textures and doesn't fuck with the level itself?

It's obvious the mod doesn't put a lot of effort into being lore-friendly, but I don't think that was ever really the point. I think the point was just, "Look neat" which it failed in some areas but did pretty okay in others.

Agreed, they're not nearly long and frequent enough to discourage replays, though.

It's almost non-existent, going by traditional videogame music conventions. Half-Life only has obvious score during some action sequences and I can recall each and every one of them.

I don't know what the term "gunplay" encompasses here. Most of the weapons feel good to shoot and have at least some nuance to them. No weapon with the exception of the crowbar and the pistol is just a "hold m1" ordeal. Most weapons fill an obvious niche and you're encouraged to swap between them constantly. What else are expecting a game's "gunplay" to provide you with?

Objectively wrong. The Ai in HL2 does the two most important things Ai in a videogame should do: It provides appropriate challenge and it immerses the player in the world by having believable behavior patterns and responses to player's actions. Is the Ai amazing? No. But it does it's job and doesn't make the player question their character's presence in the game.

Don't get me wrong, the gravity gun was fun to use and the alternate fires are useful, but they're limited and can only be used in specific situations. Most of the game is a slog where you must use the inaccurate and bland smg or ar2, whereas actually satisfying weapons such as the revolver or crossbow are almost never available to use because of limited ammo.
