>keep out pests

Sometimes you get cunt Spiders like the American house spider or anything that lives in the nuclear wastelands of Australia.

Spiders by nature are not vicious at all.

Yeah, Bloodborne has some of the biggest, creepiest spiders in video games I've seen in a long time, and every time you encounter them you encounter a LOT of them. God forbid those chime maidens that re-summon them. I can't imagine what it'd be like to fight them as a legit arachnophobe.

Dark Messiah and Limbo seem like the worst offenders in this regard.
Skyrim I think features quite a lot of spiders too, does it not? Some pretty creepy ones are in Arx Fatalis too. And there is a TON of them in EDF that somebody mentioned, but they feel like plastic toys and not like real spiders at all.

But yeah, Dark Messiah and Limbo had the most terrifying spiders I've ever seen in a game.

Not impossible to play, but as an arachnophobe, that one spider area in DaS2 fucked me up real good in my first time through that area.

I'm mostly this, though I managed to get over the fear of certain tiny spindly spiders. anything with a substantial body solid body, even if it's only a few mms big, creeps me out. That said I DID actually get intrigued by jumping spiders but the fact they jump so fast they effectively disappear, I get super paranoid.

anyway, Skyrim's spiders made me shudder, just because the huge ones have lairs and they come down from the ceiling. That motion unnerves me.

It's called an irrational fear for a reason. Most spiders are harmless or whose venom isn't lethal and most aren't bigger than a few cms. The ones that don't fit into these categories though, it's smart to be afraid of them as they can fuck you up.

Humans can do some heinous shit from time to time but nothing is as scary as what nature is capable of with its uncaring efficiency. "Oh you committed killed 30 people in a weird sex dungeon ritual? Cute, I'm just gonna ignite this supervolcano here and holocaust a large portion of the planet".

I'm an arachnophobe and even I find it stupid, but then again I find being scared of bears to be retarded so there you go. At least we have common ground, anon. We can both laugh at those people who are afraid of oranges.

A-fucking-men. the way they move is like 80% of what makes them scary as fuck. the other 20% is probably the way they jerk around, like someone with extreme lag.

Even an animal jerking their head from one direction to the other has some semblance of movement from position A to position B. Spiders don't fucking have that, it's like they warp.

I don't know. I even know that most of them in North America aren't terribly dangerous. It's not even injury and death I'm afraid of, I just can't stand the little bastards. Since it's spring now I have kind of wanted to go find a jumping spider somewhere if I can (haven't actually seen one in years and years) to see if holding/observing one will help me get over my dumbass fear. Spider movement is so rapid and jerky because they literally operate on organic hydraulics. Fluid is pumped in and out of their limbs which is what causes them to extend and retract.

For the same reason the Sun hasn't swallowed the entire Solar system, a black hole is not a vacuum.
Sure, objects that fly close to the black hole can fall into it, but only up to a limit.
Imagine them as planets, only instead of a surface, they have the even horizon, and instead of mass, it's just gravity that keeps getting stronger and stronger.
But if they are far away, although their gravitational influence makes galaxies orbit around them, they just do that, they orbit, they don't just suck everything.
That black hole in the webm is just the central black hole of a VERY big galaxy, it has the mass of 20 billion suns.
Our galaxy's black hole has a mass of 4 million.

so its just a gravity well like any other star or large object?

whats actually inside them then?
>>
>>376553882
Not that anon, but that's actually one of the biggest questions we still have about Black Holes. We cannot directly observe them because not even light escapes them, so it's like a hole in existence. We only know they're there in the first place because we can track the radiation around them.

All manner of theories as to what the fuck they are, but the most likely is just superdense gravity crushing everything into a singularity. Everything that makes you gets crushed into the size of an atom, as far as I understand it.

>so its just a gravity well like any other star or large object?
Exactly.

>whats actually inside them then?
It's speculative.
At the centre there's the singularity, a very small point that's generating those vast amounts of gravity.
But apart from that, not much.
In fact, there's no 'inside', it's just the event horizon (the black sphere) is the point where light, photons, can't no longer escape it's influence.
So it's not that there's something there, it's the opposite, there's nothing there, not even light.
Beyond the event horizon all there is is light and objects ripped apart into molecules, all falling into the singularity.
But it's all theoretical, all of this is pure math, speculation, and a bit of computer work.
Hell, we haven't even taken an actual picture of a black hole yet.
All the pictures you see are either drawings or simulations.
We know they exist because of the effect of their gravity.

>>376554231
>Everything that makes you gets crushed into the size of an atom
Depends on how big it is, the distance you need to crush something into to transform it into a black hole is called the schwarzschild radius.
For example, you would have to crush Earth to the size of your hand to transform it into a black hole, which is not possible.
But gigantic stars when they die and collapse, can reach that radius and transform into black holes.

They do have mass.
That's why they say that a black hole has X amount of Solar masses.
What happens is that that mass is concentrated into an incredibly small point, which is why their gravity is so strong, and why it transformed into a black hole.

>how did the singularity get there?
Black holes can form from various ways.
Gigantic, collapsing stars, or by accumulating enough energy at one point.
It is said that if you could make something, anything, reach the temperature of 1.41x10^32 kelvin, you could form a black hole out of pure energy.
Then, the more a black hole absorbs, the bigger it grows.
Black holes can also swallow up other black holes, in this case, it's more like a fusion, so they form together a bigger black hole.

And yes, that gif is a simulation.
The closest we have to a pic of a black hole is pic related, the supermassive black hole in the center of a galaxy shooting up a flare.
That happens when it absorbs something big, like a gas cloud or a star.

>then, the more a black hole absorbs, the bigger it grows.

addition to this: black holes also lose energy (and thus mass) through hawking radiation which can cause a singularity to "evaporate" if it does not get sufficient additional matter
the rate is inversely proportional with the singularity's mass which is why micro-singularities in CERN would be of no issue, they'd evaporate in microseconds with absolutely no chance of gaining sufficient mass to survive

>why micro-singularities in CERN would be of no issue,
still kind of spooky that they're experimenting with that stuff to begin with. what if some egghead's calculations are off and we all get gobbled up by the singularity?

and what are the practical purposes of research like that anyway?

It took me a while before I managed to get my ass into the cathedral, and when I did I turned off the volume.

Then again, Melchiah freaked me out, too so maybe I'm just a pussy.

The capacity of creating actual black holes is beyond our technological capabilities.
If we could, we would also have a means to create much faster space ships than the ones we currently have.
>>
>>376555926
they're not actively purposely creating them, what the LHC does is accelerate particles to an ungodly velocity and then collide them with eachother to try and see all the exotic things that come out
the reason it's done is because that's literally the only way to find the most basic of the universe's building blocks

as for practical purposes, most of it are derivatives similarly to space exploration. Though CERN is also the world's largest producer of anti-matter which has a few very select practical uses

What's the evolutionary reason there's a fear of spiders in the human psyche? I very much doubt that its just the concern that some of them are poisonous that's made us predetermined to shit ourselves if we see one.

Gravity's a pussy. You should be more concerned with dark energy that's pushing space apart. Every second more of the universe is expanding away from us at a rate that we'll never be able to catch up with.

things get freaky when you start venturing into exotic physics
take the significantly less insane Neutron star, which contains the densest observed form of matter (can't directly observe singularities)

a teaspoon of neutron star matter (sometimes called neutronium) would weight about the same as 900 great pyramids and would actually have a sufficient mass concentration you could actually feel it's gravity if you got close enough

I'm an arachnophobe and I've beaten every Souls game

>DeS Armor Spider
Mildly creepy
>DaS Izalith sisters
Why boner and sometimes uncomfortable to look at
>DaS2 Duke's Dear Freja
Had to close my eyes occasionally especially with her adds. Any spider enemies before were mostly dealt with arrows. I had to beat this bitch like 10 times for some drop I wanted too.
>DaS3 Wolf Spider
Screamed when he first jumped and decided to kill both with arrows and bombs
>Bloodborne spiders
Literally was shaking while fighting the smaller nightmare spiders and ended up turning off the game to regain computer when I aggro'd the big one. Ended up not fighting the big one on the church at all and ran like a bitch. Rom was only slightly disturbing, but kinda cute.

I love solifuges, and I don't really know why.

I think I just like arthropods that make their living by being strong enough to just fuck up others.

Like Pheidole ants, which have massively oversized heads filled with muscles giving them jaws powerful enough to bite other insects clean in half.
>>
>>376564691
I appreciated that the frostbite spiders were pretty much anatomically identical to solifugids. It's something only somebody who knows a fair amount about arachnids would pick up on. They even have the palp-legs. See: >>376563870
