Because you didn't have a party member that dealt psi damage or gun damage. She also has heat raiser and a reflect buff. Characters in general have less interaction than in P4, it was fine until makoto joined, it picked up once after that when you trained futaba but ultimately the game fell short in that regard. The game would have been no different without Haru in it. She doesn't take away from anything but she also doesn't add anything. I would think that a new version of the game will add many new events though.

So what? You also didn't have light or dark damage from other party member in other persona games. I think if they had had only Ann, Ryuji and maybe Yusuke it would have been better. Haru is actually there to fill a particular thing that is missing. Her confidant opens up at the time where hell breaks lose. Public opinion on you is changing, your target dies, you get framed and it's basically very chaotic. But then there's haru. A very meekly girl in the outside world that has issues trusting people and completely relies on you. The first few times you meet up with her you basically just help her gardening and listen to her troubles while she giggles away and tries her best to stay positive. She also has this very feminine and fluffy look to her which usually makes you want to protect her while she's yapping away about her plans of a family caffee.

She's basically that very boring girl that you want to settle down with, ontop of that she's also rich which means you'll have a very stable future. It's pure neet bait for people who want a calm future with a meekly girl.

Persona 4 didn't have piercing damage. And naoto used a gun, they didn't differenciate between gun and regular physical damage either. Psi damage and gun damage are actual damage types in P5, that's why they get a dedicated party member. The other damage types are not in P4, that's why they didn't get them.
