The dev did fuck up by marketing it as essentially an unofficial sequel to HM in the early stages of developement, but he does have a bit of a point. If the game only takes place in the HM universe but does not continue the story of HM, which is what it looks like right now with the dev trying to distance the game from HM, then he is kinda right. At this point he really should just go all the way and remove any references to HM all together and just keep the setting similiar and the gameplay for the action segments.

Friendly reminder that despite Midnight Animal only releasing ONE SINGLE PLAYABLE LEVEL publically in the past two years, there are plenty of fantastic Steam Workshop Hotline Miami 2 campaigns. The ones below are my personal recommendations, and all have custom sprites, completely custom music, and excellent level design.

Don't fret over the "custom soundtrack" thinking it's hard to mod, all you have to do is replace one file, that's it. Takes five seconds.
