Maybe the issue is that /v/ hates open world games that are empty and lifeless and poorly done story-driven linear games. There were round the clock threads for weeks about people playing Breath of the Wild and /v/ loves a good story-driven linear game like Trails in the Sky, Shin Megami Tensei, or virtually any good RPG.

What about gameplay driven linear games?

Linear games with no story.
Eg Mario.

An anon that wishes to be unhappy will find plenty of reasons to bitch.
Open world games are quaint at first, but get old fast.
Story driven linear games aren't bad.
Bad story driven linear games are fucking abysmal.

Not really. Only when it's trash without gameplay like Last of Us and Uncharted
>>376468882
>without gameplay
Last of Us is a linear movie-game that would've been better had it gotten open-world elements
The most fun part of the game is exploring and scavenging but it never really expands as much as it should
The multiplayer literally does the concepts of the single player better. Ellie, in fact, ruined the game.

neither, both can be done right but most of the modern devs clearly don't know how to create a well designed game so for linear games they use "le cinimatik xperience, deep thrilling story for the grown ups xd" while for the open world it's basically "look guys we got this uper huge sandbox that's totally not copypasted empty gargabe filled with shitty side activities!"
