zenimax/bethesda is the absolute worst when it comes to astroturfing

when doom and fallout 4 came out, social media, all sorts of forums, /v/, reddit, FUCKING EVERYTHING would not stop moaning about the games. I hate this corporate strategy of going all over the net and plastering everything with your shitty product. Yeah sure the game might be interesting but corps trying to start the "word of mouth" trend by themselves is nauseating
>>
>>376456521
This. It's only barely non linear. A lot of the areas of the ship can't be accessed directly. For instance, having to go to the Arboretum in order to get to the ship's bridge. These are things that don't make sense in terms of functional design everything should be accessable by way of the main lift

It's about creating player agency. I swear every 15 minutes, I come across a new room that has like 3 separate ways to enter. It's just nice to have that freedom of choice. It feels so much better than your average shooter.

It's a very high-ranking entry in the System Shock / Dude Sex genre of shooters. You have the narrative and shooting from Shock games combined with the open design of Deus Ex.

Stop shitposting guys. It's a good game. Even if you're the biggest fucking snob in the galaxy, you should give it at least a strong 6 out of 10. The combat is a bit floaty and there's no strong repeat-playthrough value, but it's still a great time, especially if you can get immersed.

Seriously, if Prey doesn't even do it for you anymoe, it's probably time for a new hobby.

Render-2-texture tech is literally N64 era feature, and literally a stock effect even goddamn Unity allows as drag & drop solution.

And the lack of mirrors really ain't my biggest beef. The art style is horrible, lighting very flat, and the game is all around uninspiring.

Story wasn't all that great but I wasn't expecting anything from it. I just wanted to explore a space station that I could get immersed with and try a whole bunch of wacky shit to see if it worked.

Never bothered upgrading past leverage 1 because I found I could toss leverage 1 items at level 2 or 3 items to slowly push them out of the way.

Or if I couldn't find a heavy enough item, I could use a gas canister to blow it out of the way or use the recycle grenade to get rid of the object.

Really wanted to find a way to be able to kill something by barreling into it as a mug at high speed and maybe you can with some crazy combo with the other alien powers but I didn't want to go over the fucking spoopy alien tolerance limit and have all of my turrets I reinforced shoot me.

Also, don't fucking bother with turrets on hard or above, about the only thing they can kill without tipping over are mimics.

Did you even read a word I just said, or are you literally just here to shill your boss' game?

Secondary cameras projecting their footage to separated surface is literally 20 years old tech, takes a promille of the time creation of single 3D model requires, and no - it does not make "game to render scene twice & sap performance" like you'd prolly say next.

In these types of games, I usually try and get the upgrades that will let me access more shit. I'd say grab hacking 3 if you want to access like 80% of stuff without needing to know the code.

Also, grab leverage 1. You can actually push leverage 2 and 3 objects with a leverage 1 object by either tossing the leverage 1 thing against the other thing until its out of the way or just smushing the leverage 1 object into the other one which usually pushes it away in some janky fashion.

>>
>>376465338

>>
>>376465521
The pistol and the shotty are the only conventional weapons, turrets aside. Remember that you're on a space station; even the NPCs make comments on their guns being underpowered, but that it's a better alternative to blowing up the wrong window or causing an oxygen explosion.

For long range you'd probably want to get an upgraded Q-Beam. You can get it at several diffrent points; if you have a high repair skill (II or III) you can do the space walk in Hardware Labs, repair the destroyed thingie there and then sneak into Beams & Waves lab from the inside. That or check the freezer in Crew Quarters' kitchen.
>>

I can deal with mimics just fine but the phantoms fuck me up so I just avoid most of them for now

>>

If the game feels dull or plays like unbalanced shit, then it's probably your fault. No one forced you to play on normal (read : easy) or waste entire ammo "finishing off" that Technopath.

Then again this is the reality of modern gaming. Linear bullshit with forced "scenes" and hand holding is now mandatory for good review scores.

Mimics, telepaths, corrupted ops, military ops, nightmares, weavers, mind controlled humans, phantoms, poltergeists, those balls that explode when they get close. I don't remember their name.
>areas are all short as fuck
What does this even mean? Some areas are small, others are massive. Maybe you should do something other than beeline the main objective, faggot.
>massive amounts of backtracking just to pad out the game and make it seem bigger
There is very little backtracking, you're shipped from area to area if you follow the main quest with only slight backtracking near the end, sidequests can be done in massive batches, if you choose to run back for each sidequest as you pick them up, that is your fault.
>no weapon variety
Its not call of duty, its an rpg. But even then, wrench, shotgun, pistol, stungun, gloo gun, q beam, multiple types of granade, multiple psy powers. Pretty standard for a System Shock style game.

Because the bar at the start of the game was a tiny set piece, they could afford to throw a reflective mirror there. The rest of the game was vagina tunnels with no mirrors. Talos I meanwhile is a giant glass space station, having real time reflections would have been massively taxing. So what does this shitpost actually prove?

A butthurt employee leaks the entire plot with his opinions and people are meant to just assume that it's fact?

A lot of what he claims to be plotholes weren't since they do get explanations in game, or can be explained. For example physical enhancement neuromods could easily be explained that the human body has a high potential for strength but limits itself to avoid damage - such as if you were to be electrocuted and your muscles moved fast enough to throw you back.

The only thing that is remotely fair to say was the Dahl being a random asspull made to extend the game length.

Dahl was put there so you could see the length Alex and Morgans own family would go through to try to save their precious company. I hated the Yu's. Not a single one was redeemable as a human being. Alex deserved to die by my hand at the end. Fucking monsters, worse than the Typhon they tried to exploit. Those greedy cocksuckers sold out the entire human race for science, and profit. I don't believe for a second that Alex wouldn't doublecross and exploit the Typhon after I took his hand and helped him bring mercy and empathy to the entire species. If you read all of his emails and logs, he was a much as a soulless shell of a scientist as Alex. Alex just had more ambition, and was willing to exploit his own flesh and blood to achieve said ambition. Playing as amnesiac Morgan, I only grew to hate my own character. I gladly blew up Talos One with me, and everyone aboard it, to try to save earth from any possible exposure. But of course I found out I wasn't even me, and had to stare down Alex trying one last time to exploit the Typhon. Not to save humanity, but to save himself. I killed him the first time, and replayed the ending just to see what happenend if I went along with his plan, only to get that same smug, dishonest "we're gonna shake things up". No game game made me feel like the villain working against more villains like this game did.

The game left too many unanswered questions. Where is Alex? Is there any Humanity left on earth? What is Alex's endgame if he succeeds in humanizing the Typhon species? Are all the consciousnesses currently trapped in the corral still savable? Would the Typhon even care about the human race, even if given empathy, once they know Alex treated their kind as nothing more than product?

US Copyright Law works on a "I don't want to spend the time and money fighting this in court" system. Bethesda literally, not figuratively, bullied a random bunch of nobodies into not using a basic noun/verb in the whole fucking phrase that was their game title. If it went to court, only one outcome would have occurred: they would have been told the "infringing" title did not, in fact, infringe due to being dissimilar enough. In the same way that some dickbag retard in the UK can't own the word "edge", Bethesda does not own the word "prey". They are the only company that can currently title their game using the word Prey by itself, but they can't possibly claim to own every possible titular permutation involving the word "prey". That is absolutely NOT how US copyright law works, no matter how much some people wish it did.

It could possibly be cracked right now, but I doubt anyone will bother until it gets patched. Nier was probably cracked weeks ago, but they didn't release it until the newest patch and dlc was released. Sometimes the people who crack stuff bide their time to get the most bang out of their crack, just in case the newest patched version undos their work later.

Lord knows this fucking game needs a patch. Only reason speedrunners have beat the game in less than twenty minutes is because the game is a buggy, exploitable mess. I almost had to start all over, because a dead character kept falling through the floor when I got close to her and she was carrying a keycard that allowed me to continue the story. Without it the story would not progress. I had to reload 10+ times until I managed to get just close enough to spam the transfer inventory button so I could move her shit over to my inventory. So I'm 30+ hours into my playthrough, already had to start a new one before because my save files got fucked or something (game would crash when I tried to load into certain areas).

I got to the part in Cargo Bay where you're with Elazar and she wants you to place turrets and fight the Typhons, so I did everything she said, opened the doors and the turrets wrecked everything after I threw a null grenade, no one died but somehow I can't complete the quest because it's fucking bugged.

So now, on a run where I was going for the no human kills achievement is fucked, because if I leave the zone the quest fails, and going back into cargo bay all the npcs are dead even though I killed all the fucking Typhons.

Made me ragequit and start a new game all over again.

Bethesda fucked over arkane to buy them. They tried it to 3 other studios and it failed because no one wants to be borderline illegally fucked like they did to arkane, and because the result of them failing was them killing off a great game that was mostly finished, simply because "fuck those guys! how dare they not sell cheap to us!".

Either way, I'm happy with how resources turned out. I'm pretty OCD and hoard/explore everything, only stopping short of throwing recycling charges at shit for more minerals. I'm guessing the game has the Turret's AI checks for the attitude (as in, is it upright and deployable?) before it even has a chance to settle on the ground. Kind of negligent coding. Should have made a 1-second delay on the check. It pisses me off, because this is the kind of shit Quality Assurance (testers) should be finding and reporting, but instead I bet they playtest with a bunch of casual college kids who know nothing.

Left: no GI or radiosity, baked in shadows, low-res textures (probably around 512x512), static objects in environment, character is probably 2000 polygons and that's the most detailed model in the scene, keyframe animations with limited IK solvers, one shader: phong, meant to run at a smaller resolution, hard shadows

Right: GI and simulated radiosity, dynamic shadows, physics objects in scene, character is closer to 10000 polygons, environment is way more detailed, textures are 1024x1024 on average, mocapped animations and physics/IK solvers, different shaders and physically based rendering, meant to run up to 4k, soft shadows

Games are more complex than they used to be. It's not as easy to do mirrors because they have to duplicate the whole room to do them. Which is fine if you're talking low fi graphics and little else but now everything is so high quality that it's harder to duplicate a room without a performance hit. Not to mention that in 2006 people weren't obsessing about 60fps. Now a fps hit is unacceptable to most PC gamers. Plus in 2006 (and even years before that) it was a "look what gaming can do!" thing. Once it's done, there's no need to keep proving it. Why waste resources (time and processing power and memory) to do something the player spends 2 seconds noticing?

Worst thing to happen to PC Gaming in a while. Just another convenient reason to throttle the visuals. You realise that BESIDES the mirrors, the game is totally good looking. Not Crysis (back in the days) tier but still completely okay by 2017 standards... Also the art-style is gorgeous.

Of course yeah story is not what Arkane is well known for. It's pretty bad. I would even go as far as saying that after I finished the game, I even thought it was complete SHIT.

But fuck the level design is great, everything is connected and you get to visit the whole ship. I don't know if I can talk about non-linear progression, but yeah depending on your build you can definitely visit some places really soon. Also Arkane is good at making a coherent gameplay evolution : I'm on an almost pure "magical" build except for hacking (and inventory space) and it's brilliant.

They won't need to be for much longer. With Denuvo v4 already cracked, it's really just a matter of time, specifically whenever the game gets a good patch that fixes a lot of problems. Then, boop, cracked version for the masses.
>>
The issue with this game is that the core gameplay is just too boring. There's no reason they should opt for what is essentially an RPG combat system when the game is mostly action and shooting. Enemies shouldn't have HP bars and attacks shouldn't do 15% damage per hit.
The game plays like the Division but it's in fact a single player game. As a result the combat just feels very slow paced and unexciting. It would be much better if it simply had dead space's combat and more scripted combats despite those things being hated here.

It only feels that way if you remain complaisant with a handful of attack methods, and don't acquire upgrades/ayyylmao mods. There's plenty of varieties, and if you experiment, plenty of way to take down baddies with no hassle. Got a Phantom? one psyblast and a couple shotgun blast and it's dropped. Or you can pull it into the air to disable it, and drop it with whatever you got. Or you can render it helpless aside from melee attacks by disabling it's own psy moves for up to 15 seconds, allowing you more than enough time to deal with it. Or turn one of them against the other if there's more than one. Grab a nearby turret and drop one before engaging so you can get some extra dps, and possibly some distraction. got a telepath and an army of AHHHHHH slaves? give that fuck a q-beam facial from 100ft away while effortlessly dodging his attacks. If you just run up to a typhon with a shotgun and go "ooga-booga now ue dai", you're gonna have a bad time.

Kasper can spawn in one of many of the locations in the station, it's chosen randomly. As far as locating him goes you need to go to Dahl's shuttle and read his mission briefing which gives the the exact location of Kasper.
>>
>>376497387
One example would be >>376488998

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was in the coolant room, and needed to get a keycard off of a dead npc to open a door that was both unhackable, and had no alternative route, not to mention the story simply wouldn't progress unless I claimed it. Thank god the game autosaves when I entered the area, so I was able to do a manual save when I was about ten feet from the body. I had to do the exact same thing. Inch my way up to them while spamming the transfer items key, otherwise they immediately fell through the floor the second my crosshairs gave me the option to do anything with the body. But I've seen instances where key characters spawn behind walls, or are marked but when you get there, either they aren't there, or it's just an object with their name. Like any rpg, there's a lot of game breaking bugs. For instance, if you spam gloo on an object, and rapidly destroy all of said gloo, you could eventually make it stop clipping with you or the world, making the object fall through the floor, or allowing you to simply walk through a door, which is a trick speedrunners use.
>>

It wasn't so much of a bum rush as it was a total assrape. They glitched the game to high heaven, and used the gloogun to get key items to trigger the endgame. It's on youtube, and very easy to find. The speedrun itself is really not that fun, mainly because it's all just exploits with zero real skill involved. No bunnyhopping, nothing, just lots of clipping through stuff and climbing on gloo.
