A lot of people disregard the first game because of how antiquated it has become in terms of RPG standards. It's true that the recent Wii U translation and NES roms are pretty bad in terms of grinding, it was an 80s game afterall. There is a modded rom for the GBA port that is considered the definitive version though, that gives you the option to use an item that reduces enemy encounter rates and doubles (triples?) EXP earned.

Personally, I love it, and I think that every fan of the Mother series should either play it or read up on it.
The plot contains a lot of world-building, including the backstory of the main villain and his motives (not explained in Mother 2 or 3), and where PSI energy, the game's form of magic, came from.

The music set a standard for the series and I think it still holds up to this day as one of the best NES soundtracks.

Games have come a long way since then, at least technologically. For someone asking about getting into gaming, those are terrible recommendations. I played much of your list and enjoyed the fuck out of most of those I played, but they are not a good starting point given the full catalogue of games that exist now.

You are trying so hard to be unique you're a hipster. Witcher 1 was good at time of release and is barely tolerable as a game now. Shit voice acting, story was whack as fuck considering the source material, combat was unbelievably boring and simple, and didn't even manage to work fluidly. The game sucks, and aged terribly. I will now go full fucking autismal on MGS, It's one of the worst game series I've ever played, it feels like it's trying to be so many thing at once it doesnt know if its action, stealth or some kind of aborted pac man clone, the writing is inconsistent, sometimes its good (like that bit from MGS2 about creating context) sometimes its hamburger helper tier of bad, in one part Big Boss is literally discussing movies with support team and the other time he'll start discussing politics with major zero

and then in 3 they make the genius decision of removing the radar, fine

but the fucking camera still stays above you, IN AN OPEN ENVIROMENT, so you start playing this snake simulator/FPS clone because the devs were too fucking stupid to figure out how a camera should work in a stealth game like this

I could stay here all day wasting my energy on how much I hate this series, but I have class in 20 mins

You on the other hand seem to love sucking overhyped shit. Played TW1 for the first time in 2013, and it was one of the best games I've played. The combat was enjoyable and flashy, just like it should be, and the game also has way more and better ROLE playing stuff.

If you have a DS lying about, I'd recommend The World Ends With You.
One of my favourite games of all time, the gameplay is incredibly unique.
