I remember the article, if I recall correctly they do model replacements with the smears on the frame by frame basis. Is there any good full value fighting games out there? I used to think by default a fighting game have very little playtime in terms of single player but then I play Melty Blood and learn that all other fighting games were simply shit and I was making excuses for myself. Super Smash series while not a true fighting game series does give a ton of single player content to make it worth it while. Why can't devs see single player can be fun too?

He's not that hard to get into since his buttons are so good and his basic pressure is easy. The hardest thing to get used to with his scrolls is the awkwardness of having to hold a direction until you want to cling to them, and the timing for different mixups. Very open-ended with all of his movement options, though. Seems like the kind of character that provides a nice high skill ceiling.

Because playing humans is a thrill that can't be replaced, and fighting AI with some bullshit anime cutscenes in between is fairly boring and something you only do once. I'll take new multiplayer features over single player features in a fighting game ANY day of the week. SFIV's Tournament Mode and KoFXIV's team mode come to mind. New characters could be literally anyone but if we just want to pull from story mode then Paradigm, Gabriel, and the third King that shows up at the end of Revelator are all contendors, I guess. Zappa and Roboky have already showed up as far as returning characters goes, and Anji apparently shows up in Rev2.

GG is the best 2D fighter out there right now by miles. SFV is casual-mode shit that has nothing catering to casuals outside of its actual gameplay. I've never been much of a KOF fan and the newest one looks like shit on top of having no players. Skullgirls is too fucking weird to look at to be able to grind in training mode for a significant period of time and also steals everything good about it from other fighters. And out of all the Arcsys games, GG is by far the most fun - UNIEL has the 3 big characters and 0 support in the west, Melty Blood is poverty incarnate, and the other anime fighters out there don't compare to GG's insane amount of mechanics and ability to improvise. Game's sick, everyone should try to learn a 2D fighter in their life and try to play people. It's kinda forgotten at this point in history with the death of arcades and that's pretty sad. The genre, and especially GG, can be a lot of fun if you play with the right people and know how to control your character.
And now I'll go back to waiting for 3rd Strike to come back to life.

That's actually such a shame. The parrying system is so fucking sick in a Street Fighter game, it makes the footsies game a billion times cooler and that's already the best part of SF. The fact that the only characters you see at high level are Chun and Yun, with occasional appearances by Ken, Dudley, Makoto, and the like. That's all you really need to have a fun game, but still. 2D fighters especially should have at least decent character balance. Pour one out for ya boy Q, the coolest character ever made and also one of the worst.

The problem with balance in fighting games is that it often just results in a boring game. Things like HnK are fun as fuck because it's so broken. Guilty GG games have usually had ridiculous balance problems, too. Xrd finally got around that thanks to the new RC system ontop of so many universal defense mechanics, every character being able to ruin your day after a knockdown, and team red really stepping up their game but it's rare to have such a well-balanced roster remain interesting.
