>fastest CPU on the planet is only a little over two times faster than my 5 year old budget processor

hahaha, what the hell happened?
>>
>>376419497

>is only a little over two times as fast

Doubling a respectable speed is hardly something to scoff at.

Really the bigger issue is the 7700k and the 6950x being so similar in performance while one is 1600$ and the other is 300$
>>
>>376419497
Soooo it's still the fastest on the planet right?
What's this thread even about?
>>
>>376419497
you can only reduce the size of transistors inside a processor so much...
>>
At what? single core?
Because a 10core broadwell should be over 5 times faster than an FX-6300 in multicore workloads
>>
>>376419497
that's not how any of this works, at all.

Your 6300 will bottleneck your GPU hard on anything that's demanding on single threaded performance (all games.) and perform like shit.

You'll be lucky if you can even run a 970 at full performance, I don't think you even can. You'd probably run into bottlenecks after the 760 kind of level which isn't great in 2017

In real world use it would look like this

6950x = fps - unlimited by your GPU setup, 2x 1080tis = your FPS, temperatures = always low even when overclocked === maximum FPS possible in the world with no limiting factors on the CPU side of things

6300 = fps limited by CPU, any modern GPU will be bottlenecked down to around 50% performance instantly.
tl;dr 6950 = scales infinately with your GPU setup and 6300 is hard locked to low-mid range setups

AMD stepping up to embarras themselves again. Ryzen was a failure, and intel just stood back and laughed. Hard not to just get lazy when your competitors are incompetent.
>>
The issue seem to be energy/heat. Since water cooling isn't the norm they have to look at basic fan cooling and the increase of power means more heat. So they have to make it so the CPU can withstand the higher need of energy/heat which is a big issue.

>mobos selling out faster than manufacturers can make them
>demand higher than any AMD release in recent memory
>failure
Gonna need a bigger bait Onii-senpai
>>
>>376420224
no its still fucking pathetic, in last 5 years cpu speed increased what? 30%? While gpu speed increased like 500% or something.
Really cpu tech is stagnating like hell
>>
>>376421517
CPUs are phenomenal right now

You literally can't even get a PC realistically for the average superuser to even fully test the mid-high end CPUs so why does it matter?

unless you buy AMD that is, then it matters because they're shit
>>
>>376421443
>implying intel does not beat Ryzen clock for clock and IPC
>Muh mobos selling
I am sure intel is quaking in their boots.
That is the reason why the tech is going noware. They are not challenging intel in any effective way and just spinning the weels. You all wonder why intel can get away with the shit it pulls?

>>
>>376421517
GPUs benefit hugely from more cores so are far more scalable.

CPU instruction per clock increases are showing diminishing returns, and clock frequencies are getting close to material limits.

AMD is superior vs Intel is superior thread.

The answer, Intel is superior but is expensive as fuck for what it is, and AMD sucks but is cheap.
>>
>>376422034
Nigger Intel themselves have been forecasting lower profit margins for shareholders. And it isn't just because of AMD. Intel has been trying to pull the same shit they did in the prebuilt sector by bribing manufacturers to only use Intel chips in their builds; only this time in the mobile market, but their chips are so shit that no one wants to switch from Qualcom. Shit, even Nvidia is doing better in mobile CPUs than Intel.

And they've been stuck on 14nm for ever, their 12nm architecture has been going nowhere to the point it's almost a sunk cost at this point. Intel has no forward momentum right now but to clock up Kaby 5% and rebrand as a new generation of CPU. Their tick-tock business plan is done, and they're shedding jobs and engineers like no tomorrow.

So while you can argue that it isn't all Ryzen's fault that Intel is losing ground, it is one factor. High End servers were Intel's bread and butter while they attempted to get into other markets like mobile CPUs, and now that Ryzen is competing there at half the price Intel is stuck with very few options. They need 12nm or better, 10nm, and they need it fast.
>>
>>376419497
Well that is a general analysis, it's probably closer to 2-3 times faster in single core applications, the 6950x isn't even the fastest CPU at single core applications either.

AMD wasn't in the wrong with their old MORE CORES approach to CPU manufacture, developers are just to lazy to get good at their job and learn to make games properly.

please don't talk about things you don't understand.
>>
>>376421517

You lack even a basic understanding of the technology you're talking about.
>>
>>376421517
cpu tech is reaching a plateau due to the physical nature of computers. a single core can only run so fast before it begins to melt.
>>
>>376423780
im just stating facts, cpu tech plateaued, while gpu tech continued to improve
