I have only played tales of symphonia before this, I'm at the part where elanore joins the party after you kick her ass

I started to play this because people recommended to play this if I enjoyed xenoblade's combat

am i missing something? Every fight is assigning artes on the enemy weakness on a single button and mashing your combo, dodging away, and going back in for an attack on and on and on. I'm playing on hard mode for reference, I've killed 5 code red monsters so far and I don't think intense is going to change anything up

That's not how it works, anon.

Also it really wasn't that great, it still had many of Zest's problems despite fixing much, it wasn't quite enough. Combat was as mindless and spammy as ever, even on the highest difficulty due to Theronization turning you invulnerable, the camera was still broken, though this was mitigated by the fact that the game didn't put you in narrow corridors anymore (it's most noticeable in the one area with narrow corridors, the prison)

Story was a lot better though, my only complaint was that "daemons" are very poorly defined, Violet is basically just a normal human with a magic arm while Rokuro and Kurogane are mainly just obsessive, Dyle is just a human again that looks like a lizard etc. Some of the drama also felt really janky, with Violet having a mental breakdown over two morons getting themselves killed trying to kill her, it'd be more understandable if one of them didn't just backstab you while they could have both walked away alive, and the other being responsible for the death of your sister, but oh no boo hoo I feel so bad that these people who tried to kill me are dead now...

It actually is the most button mashy tales games to date. You look up the enemy weaknesses and make one of your attack button with a chain of attacks that hit those weaknesses. Then mash that button and l2 until you want to mystic art. Also you're invincible while doing it if you're playing velvet. This works on all difficulties except the hardest, then it works again when you have leveled up and got most skills.

This is just how Steam works. Often times, sequels just pale in comparison to the sales of the first one that entered the store.

I've lost faith in the Tales series after countless busts. I haven't been happy with a Tales game since Abyss. I'll buy Berseria when I run out of games to buy and I'm hankering for a JRPG.

Did the people that played all Tales games and rated all of them rate this one? No? Because then it doesn't matter what is and isn't highest rated.
