It's a shitty open world blandfest. I like the concept of precision shooting to damage armour, weapons, and weak points, but that's a nightmare with a pad. I like the idea of scaling up robot monsters, but I only ever climbed up the giraffes which were all similar and symbol, and your reward is map markers, fuck that. I like fighting giant robots but you fight the same boss robot in the story three times and not much else, why aren't the story missions more focussed on giant monster robots?

To me the game just wasn't interesting with its story. I gave it an honest 3 hours of gameplay - get past the horrid tutorial and really try to get into the spirit of the game and I just....couldn't. As soon as BOTW came out I ditched it for that, then Nier Automata, then Persona 5, now Legend of Heroes TC. I've never had the strong urge to return to Horizon. It just lacks some compelling element I can't put my finger on. It looks good, combat is okay, story is pretty boring and predictable.

Horizon is essentially a game created by suits. By that, I mean that a bunch of people who don't play games, but spend their time looking to make money from video games took a bit of paper and ticked off parts of games that are popular and just mixed it all together in one big mashup. And then casualized it, so it's more accessible.

For instance, the way the map works is Witcher 3. The way creating and leveling works, is Far Cry 3. They way traps work, is Far Cry 2. The way Dialogue is set, is Bioware, specifically ME. The only thing they did slightly unique, is the combat, but it's so shallow and casual, that it's more of a drag than anything else. Bows have no real mechanics to them, are incredibly quick and rarely ever drop, arrows turn to hit enemies for you, even with auto aim turned off. And in the end, since it was too easy even for casuals, they turned it into a numbers game like Witcher 3 and just made everything a health sponge.

The game does absolutely NOTHING new. Everything in it reminds you of another popular game. Nothing about it makes you want to go back and play it again, nothing about it is memorable. It's a game made entirely by pandering and ticking boxes of what would make that pandering sell the most.

huge failed opportunity, IMO. Because the whole post-apoc. world is interesting, and looking at all those buildings left behind and wondering what happened is interesting. But it just wasn't strong in the narrative department, we're kind of told the entire backdrop near the end of the game, when they should have given more information throughout the game. I also feel like the world-building is way off and awkward, why did humanity revert to a weird asian/european medieval society when they have examples of what modern buildings look like? it feels like they didn't think it through.

I really can't say I guess, I only gave it 3 hours and wasn't hooked by anything the way the three games I mentioned hooked me in with an hour. I don't know if they story picks up in a massive way later on but from what I played the story is pretty plain. You can pretty much piece everything together from a little bit of play time + watching the trailers. I'm not one of those people to just dismiss it as "SJW trash", I just thought it was a little boring compared to the other games released at the same time. For me the lore, when I first started the game I thought it was kind of lackluster. But once I kept playing it the history of the world completely drew me in and made me keep playing the game.

Side Quests

In one side quest, we are asked by the leader of an Oseram settlement 'Petra' *(white female)*, to get her some stuff from a nearby junkyard.
This makes bandits attack the village. Luckily she is super smart and built some kind of artillery mass-grenade launcher that you can use to kill all the bandits.
The second part of the quest starts with a random underling *(white male)* being to cowardly to do his job, and protect a caravan and you should find the caravan.


Another quest evolves around a father asking you to find a doctor for his daughter. Said doctor *(white male)* does not give a shit about childres lifes though and you have to bring him valuable stuff first, while he constantly insults you.


Another one is started by a woman named 'Vanasha' *(black female)* who wants us to first save a guy named 'Uthid' *(white male)* , who has been falsely accused of treason by the current leading priest of the sun, Bahala *(white male)*.
After saving him and killing Bahala. The second part of the quest revolves around saving a child and his mother from the cludges of the eclipse and bring them to the new sun king.


My favorite one revolves around the "Hunter lodge", a group of people who get their thrills out of hunting the most dangerous machines.
You first have to do some pre-quests or else the Guard *(white male)* whill not let you in at all.
Inside you have to ask the current "sun hawk"'Ahsis' *(white male)* to allow you to join. Unfortunately he is a huge piece of shit, and you have to threaten legal actions until he lets you find a mentor.
Luckily you find that mentor in the person of 'Alanah' *(black female)*.
After some more questing, you want to hunt the biggest and baddest machine called "Redmaw". However, Ahsis doesnt want you to do that before him, so he sends mercenaries to attack you.
Later he gets killed by Redmaw, while Aloy and Talanah slay the beast, and Talanah becomes the new sunhawk (first woman to do so ever).

Another one revolves of a daughter *(white female)* that fled from her supposedly evil father *(white male)* and the father asks you to find her.
During the quest you find out that she had a hidden relationship ongoing with another tribesmember *(black male)*.
However, this guy gets tortured and killed by the Eclipse (all males).
In the end the father and daughter are sad together, and the father apologizes for everything.


Also, there is this quest in which a woman *(black female)* asks you to find out who steals her fruits. It turns out to be a mad savage guy living in the wilds *(white male)*


Next one ist about a guy *(white male)* who asks you to get him some supplies that he cannot reach. When you reach the spot, you get ambushed by him and other bandits, as they want to steal your stuff.

My friend just loaned me the game. Twelve hours in and it's alright. It has some shining moments or areas so far but nothing absolutely mind-blowing.

I'm on very hard and nothing has really posed too much of a threat so far. I wish you could climb more shit honestly. The matriarchal society is only in Aloy's tribe, the other tribes find it either preposterous or weird, (the tribes range from meritocracies to patriarchal) and it has a reason to be. Before the humans were released into the world they grew up inside a bunker of sorts and they were raised by robots. The female robot was caring and understanding like a mother, while the father robot had the function of giving discipline. When the humans grew up the robots were ill equipped to deal with uneducated adults (they should have been receiving education but Apollo was wiped) and so the discipline robot would punish the humans unfairly because the humans would act ignorantly in violation of social rules etc (it's implied that they were most likely having sex or some kind of sexual contact, possibly in public). The humans grew up resenting the father figure and loving the mother figure who would not scold but understand their actions. Thus they believed mothers to be wiser than fathers.

On to the other shit you faggots talk about, the game doesn't place blame squarely on a white man's shoulder, it actually criticizes corporations that use war to make profits that man only happens to be the head of the company that causes the apocalypse. But through the game you can see that the fault is not entirely his own but it's the fault of everyone that worked on the project.

Also a black muslim woman didn't create Gaia, she created one of the subroutines of Gaia which was Apollo, tasked with preserving knowledge. Hades (which is another subfunction) was indeed created by an arrogant white male, but he didn't fuck up, Hades worked as it should have. Something else (a signal) caused Gaia to lose control over all her subroutines causing them to act out their programming without Gaias guidance. In Hades case his function was cleaning the slate in case Gaia fucked up.

Wrong. Combat vs Human is the weakest fucking part of the game. It is fucking boring. Humans are piss easy to fight against and a lot of main story missions involve fighting humans (Eclipse). That is easily the worst part of the game by a mile. They made a great system fighting large dinosaurs and then spent large portions of the main quest making you fight trash human mobs that are fucking retarded.

So far the rideable enemies are okay. Turning is of course a pain, tanky, etc.

Combat is fun at points, especially when you put down traps, successfully ambush something, turn enemies on each other or you screw up and something gets into your face. My main complaint so far is stealth and hit-and-run tactics have made most encounters lack tension. Enemies seem to be uneven in aggression. Maybe this will change later on but right now I had a robo-deer chase me through a mountainside yet moments before a towering, flame-spitting enemy just stopped its pursuit of me and turned around.

It's boring. I gave it an honest try and got through the proving. It's just open world boring that we've seen a hundred times over.

Riding is stupid. There are 4 speeds and you press X to spur your ride faster and after awhile your ride automatically slows down to the next lowest speed. But because the game doesn't tell you when you ride is slowing down, you are forced to press X every second or so to keep top speed or wait till you see the slow down and then press X to spur your creature on.
