S-should I buy a 1050 ti lads? For how many years can I expect to run new games?

Help me buy something /v/.

Gaming hardware thread, I guess.
>>
>>376363769
not worth it
>>
rx 570 will be better
>>
>>376363769
I just bought one on sale for 115 to stick in my dads computer

Id say you would have at least a couple years if not more considering the stagnation of graphics

Hell even the 750ti is still hanging strong
>>
1050ti is a low range card, decent but a 480 is way better and cheaper or same price. honestly get a 480 and sit on it for a few years. im still using my 7970 since 2014 and can run most stuff on high 1080
>>
>>376363769
If you are super poor then yes get it
You will notice massive difference compared to shitty igpu
If you can afford a 1060, get it though, but if not, get what you can
>>
>>376363913
This, i still got the 750 and it runs everything new at pretty decent settings
>>
>>376363769
as long as you're okay with less than high settings on newer or badly optimized games the 1050 ti is what you want.
>>
>>376363979
rx 480 is more expensive, almost at same range of 1060, at least on my country.

>>376363913
I am still on 550 ti from 2011, that shit is long outdated, but I am not so poor anymore.

I can get a 1060 or rx 480, but, its really better to pay for more expensive gpus or just to swap cheap ones more frequently? I wonder.
>>
>>376364407
>on my country
they can be had for $30 more even here in Australia. if your BR dont even bother. and to answer your second question a mid range gpu is better than a low range or high range in terms of longlivety
>>
>>376364407
middle ground is always the best option. No real reason to upgrade just one or two generations or "tiers" within the same gen.

I've had 560ti 1gb since 2011, and it still is running strong at 1080p. Only very recently have I started to find games that require setting more than a couple graphical options to low / off to get decent fps. I have seriously considered 1050ti 4gb as my quick and cheap upgrade, but I've already started to find 1060 6gb models going for almost the same price.
>>
>>376364407
>its really better to pay for more expensive gpus or just to swap cheap ones more frequently? I wonder.

If you're not doing something super demanding like 4k or 1440/144hz the best value is to go midrange like 1060/580 and upgrade every few years vs something like a 1070 or 1080
>>
>>376364407
>its really better to pay for more expensive gpus or just to swap cheap ones more frequently? I wonder.
Depends on what you need

If you are running high resolutions or demand tons of frames or just HAVE to have every fucking option in the settings turned on Ultra then get the more expensive card, if not then budget cards will do
>>
>>376364889
>middle ground is always the best option. No real reason to upgrade just one or two generations or "tiers" within the same gen.
Words of wisdom, generally, but sometimes you want to splurge a bit.
>>
test
>>
>>376363769

at this point if you get a 1050 ti it will most likely be outdated in less than a year. An RX 570 would probably be better.
>>
>>376365269

Not true.
>>
>how many years can I expect to run new games?
2 years, 2 years ago
>>
>>376363913

Don't listen to their lies. I had a 760 and couldn't run even gta 5 at 60 fps. GTX 1060 6 GB or nothing. It's the best graphics card ever made, value-wise.

Never buy an amd product in your life, too, they are cheaper for a reason. Go Nvidia + Intel. Being a good goy has it's valid reasons.
>>
>>376365132
I have a 1060 and there is barely any fucking games that use it to the full potential.
RE7 barely uses 50% of gpu at 1080/60fps
And it is a brand new game.
The only thing that this card can't tackle is minecraft with shaders, and those don't run well yet not even on 1080s.
>>
>>376363769

Buy a used 970.
>>
>>376363769
wouldnt upgrade from my 770 if someone was selling it at half price
>>
>>376365269
I was launched like, 7~8 months ago.

This sounds more likely >>376365335.

>>376365442
On what settings? Wanting to run everything on ultra on titles launched way later, would be to expect a bit too much.

If you're on a budget just buy a 580
>>
>>376365818

I have an Xbox one and had already finished the game twice in there

The reason I'm playing on PC is to have best experience. The minute I start a game im interested in and theres lag then my PC is not doing it's job and needs an upgrade. My latest 7600k and 1060 will most likely cover me for the next 3 years.

At decent settings? None years.
>>
>>376363769
Better get a GTX 1060 with a single fan it's way better than a GTX 1050ti. I plan to upgrade my GTX 460 to that one.
>>
>>376366108
So, everything on ultra.

I am not judging your standards, just researching before buying something.

Thanks for the info.
>>
>>376366428

This - In my country the diff in price between GTX 1050ti and 1060 3 gb is 10 bucks, and the shittiest 1060 is miles better than the best 1050Ti
>>
>>376366591
My Pny 1060 is good and much cheaper than an asus/gigabyte or other brand gpu

>S-should I buy a 1050 ti lads?

Maybe if it's for under $100

>For how many years can I expect to run new games?

maybe one more year at low settings 1080p and high at 720p

t. 1050 ti owner here. also a quick tip op avoid gigabyte their fans break after 3-4 months of use.
>>
>>376366457

Oh with a 1060 6 GB you'll definitely be playing everything on ultra, it's ridiculously powerful. Keep in mind I'm playing at 1080p / 60 hz. I'd personally wait a couple of months and snatch an evga 1070 SC if you're planning on 2K/4K or 144 Hz

Conclusion:
Search first for the 570/580/470/480 and if the 1060 is for some reason cheaper (wtf) or the most-likely: opposite, then get the cheapest most decent of them. If you are stuck with a locked pre-built, get this card.

>>
>>376367308
>>376363769

If you have a locked prebuilt and want the best GPU atm, GET THIS CARD.
If you are 'poor' or don't have enough dough for a GPU atm for your prebuilt, you would still be better off with this card currently (if you get a DECENT price for it).
However, get this at a reasonable price, which is around $110ish for the Super-OC variants and $100 and below for the normal 1080ti variants.

Here is a link for the best deal atm:

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Geforce-1050-Graphic-GV-N105TD5-4GD/dp/B01M4KGTNI/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1494289750&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+1050ti
>>
>>376363769
>>376367445

$104 after rebate and is one of the best variants.
The RX 470 and 480 are never gonna go back to their respective $115s and $150s.

If you are willing to spend a bit more, look out for $170/180ish RX 570s on this subreddit called /buildapcsales.
>in b4 reddit
At least they save me money -.-

P.S: I got the EVGA 1050ti Super-SC for my Dell pre-built I use mainly (got from a sale) for $113 on Amazon and its been pretty great.
1060 3gb/6gb is only worth it if you live a shitty country with inconsistent pricing of the RX 470/480/570/580.
RX 570 8GB is more than enough for 1080p and
RX 580 4/8GB is for mild 1440p.
-t.Dell PC 1050ti owner
>>
>>376363769
470 4gb is better for its price.
>>
>>376367308
If you have a shitty prebuiilt then your situation is different
GHet 1050ti because a shitty power source will crap itself with a 1060.
Otherwise upgrade first your psu, even if you buy a 1050ti. You don't want to use a shitty psu like those prebuilt builds usually have.
>>
>>376367523

>shitty country with inconsistent pricing of the RX
>AMD's shortcomings to bring their products competitively to my market is my country's fault
>This is how amdbots think
>>
>>376367546
Yeah I'm working on that, however I might do that later after using the GTX 1050ti since I just want to play SOMETHING and I'm pretty low on cash as a college freshmeat.

Say, are there ways to make the PSU not stick outside the case?
I've read my 3650 Dell won't fit a EVGA PSU inside at all.
>>
>>376367692
Well yeah I suppose.
I like Nvidia but I just want to buy the RX AMD GPU series since it's a better value as a budget card.
You can get your 1060 6GB, it will work but at what cost.
It may not matter to you but it does to more people than you think.

>>
>>376367745
Try and find a psu of another form factor.
You probably have itx or another weird factor.
>>
>>376367997
Thank you fellow /v/-non.

Back to /g/ I go.
>>
>>376366832
That is sad news, I heard that the support is also shit on some places.

OP here, I almost going for a 1050 ti with dual fan, seems to get 50~60 fps on recent games on medium-high and I am not sure if I will still be wanting to play triple A games two years from now.
>>
>>376363769
470/570 is much better if you have an i5 or higher

I3 or prebuilt toaster goes well with 1050ti
>>
>>376368540
Go PNY if you are poor, they have lifetime warranty.
