Has there ever been a game set entirely in a desert that hasn't made you want to kill yourself? Apocalyptic shit doesn't count.

Why would anyone?
Deserts are comfy as fuck
Even Spec Ops The Line was fine in that aspect
>>
>>376338560
Mad Max
Though it's kinda mediocre, too much melee combat and the map objectives are uninspired

>Apocalyptic shit doesn't count.
I guess I can't read, disregard this post
>>
>>376338985
MEDIOCRE?
>>
>>376338560

I love the desert, but I find it rarely in vidya and especially rarely good.

>tfw never a Dune game to trek through super-high quality desert, kill random people and take their water, ride the worm from time to time
>>
>>376338985
Is it a good game?
>>
Serious Sam
>>
>40 years of video games
>not one has even tried to implement mirages in desert levels
>>
Does Serious Sam count?
>>
>>376339191
The car combat is pretty fun, the visuals are stunning and it runs really well, cool screenshot tool to take fancy pictures
But too much time spent on foot, too much Ubisoft-tier collectan, too little content
Good for a few bucks
>>
Journey.
>>
>>376338560
Deserts of Kharak
>>
>>376338985
MEDIOCRE!
>>
>>376338560
Spec Ops: The Line
Not sure if that counts though because it was mostly in a city.
>>
if someone were to be working on, say, an open ended shooter revolving around life on a desert planet, what would you want to see in it?
Would you give it a try if it was indie?
>>
>>376340074
Biodomes with different enviroments.
Tropical forest, icy tundra etc
Also alien cowboys.
>>
>>376340074
maybe

what i really want though is a souls style game set in the desert with horses to ride/trade with an economy system. I want to explore pyramid puzzles and trade my horse for better armor/better access to water.
>>
>>376338560
I didn't care for MGSV as a whole but Afghanistan was actually pretty cool

It would have to look really nice.

I'm not generally a graphicsfag but if all I get to look at is sanddunes then they better look nice.

bios are planned but unfortunately they'd still be nicer looking deserts, nothing like heavy foliage would be there
also small towns and communities would dot the landscape, I don't plan on too much of it being flat open desert with nothing but dunes

Journey

>>376339832
It also makes you want to kill yourself.

It's obviously postapo.
>>
>>376343117
As cool as it'd be to force rationing and survival, I just don't see too many players investing time into something they have to travel miles through without being able to teleport
>>
>>376343976

Make movement fun in it.
A populated desert is an oxymoron. For example Nier Automata made the dunes pretty fun with its sliding shtick.
>>
>>376338560
Journey, you fag?
>>
I actually want Mad Max but with more vehicle stuff
huge highways
mirages
city ruins with skyscrapers and shit, kinda like Fallout's Boneyard
also radios playing shit like speedboozer
>>
>>376344541
Gameplay similar to tribes could work
>>
>>376345080

Obviosly I wouldn't expect it from an indie or even one-man tier game but surfing through sand dunes, stirring up dustclouds in scorching sunlightand shit is all I wanna do.

How comes Tribas:A didn't have an actual dunes map?
>>
>>376339294
Uncharted 3 had desert mirages.
The desert portion of the game was really the only highlight of the game for me.
>>
>>376346848
I thought some of the stuff they did with water during the ship part was pretty neat. Fuck that retarded "boss fight" with the big guy who could only be hurt by grenades though, that was shit.
