You can though. Soloque is high variance play, but the only consistant factor is you. If you're good, you will have an above average winrate. Once you hit masters, your high skill will win more games than in low elo, because as you climb, variance drops, as optimal play is heavily enforced.

lmao, my semi-pro friend one tricked Sombra to rank 219 at peak a month and a half ago. You can main anything to top 500, strict meta enforcement is literally retarded, as winning ultimately comes down to execution and mechanics.

Optimal compositions are optional, as you can absolutely just style on people with mechanics alone. If you can get frags and use your kit optimally, nothing else really matters.

The meta exists because the 'viable' heroes have an easier time having a strong impact than ones who are out of the metagame. Their windows of initiative are higher and their counterplay is lower. Doesn't mean you can't frag as sombra, torb, sym, etc and be a reliable dps. Mercy as well, if you land 3-5 man resses consistantly, while getting pistol frags you can easily carry games.

The only difference between a masters mercy and a silver mercy is marginally better rez timing. There is literally no other aspect of the character that is affected by player skill.

Garbage mercy one tricks who auto pilot all game will just have marginally better res times, and you can easily get to masters just by healing and have good res timing. However that's not fully optimizing the character's kit.

Mercy's who actually play optimally and improve their play with time will realize that the best damage mitigation is do kill an enemy dps, and swap between damage and healing for optimal team damage mitigation.

Ive noticed whether I can rez or not depends on whether my team groups the fuck up or not or understands that they need to die to get rezzed.
