Selling over a million copies is the definition of "selling well," despite what bloated Squeenix "we need 5 million to break even" PR statements lead you to believe. Metroid is a consistent money-maker, if not a huge one with a big ROI like cheap New Mario Bros garbage.

Other M is probably the only bad-selling Metroid game, because it took forever to break 1 million and only then after several aggressive price cuts (I was seeing new copies at Best Buy for $10-15.00 back in the day).

After Prime 1, Retro could use the same engine and template for the other two games plus trilogy re-release, offering what is likely a tidy profit for Nintendo based on little overhead cost.

To say nothing of the cheap-to-make GBA games.

The whole "metroid is a poor seller" is just misinfo being spread at this point, or just misunderstanding how sales vs. profits work.

I hope so too, the Prime game will clearly be produced by Tanabe, and I can see the 2.5D game being produced by Sakamotot while some members of EPD7 helping Climax with the game's development. It also goes with what Takahashi said about the traditional and Prime games having a future. No offense but the death of Iwata was the best thing that happened to Nintendo.
