Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

It always will in your mind. But it hasn't always been king, and it certainly isn't now. Tekken is my favorite FG series, and it's king to me, but even I know it's not always the objectively best. Not that there's an objectively best one for all, since all FG are so different, but sometimes it's clear that one is a disapointment and that other FG during a period are much better. And sometimes one is clearly delivering the most.

GG is great but too niche, not for everyone. That also results in the extra flaw of not enough players, making this flaw a vicious circle.

KOF is also niche and 3D models were a mistake, unles they had the means to do it better. The character designs of KOF work better for 2D games, in 3D they seem more bland, they pop less, they are less pleasing. Except mai's tits.

MK is doing great since 9, and can only be commended for leading the way in massive story modes and delivering massive amounts of content. Yet, while MK delivers on certain specific desires such as story, bloodlust, and ridiculousness, those things also prevent it from being objective nr.1. They also ruin a great game with micro-transactions and a bad PC release.

SF5 has been an utter disapointment on all fronts.

VF and SC are currently not in the game.

T7 can be blamed for releasing way too late. But honestly if you live where arcades don't exist, it feels no different from waiting on a non-released game. It looks to be a great game on all fronts, from mechanics to presentation to content. I unironically and honestly think it will indeed be the best current gen fighting game available.

I love playing Tekken, but watching professional matches bores the ever living shit out of me.
