All the side material is practically required to understand the setting and he even wrote a direct continuation of the final ending so the game itself doesn't have the real ending of the story. It adds nothing to the story. They're pointless details that don't change anything at all. All it does is give lorefags a little more to obsess over. I'll tell you what would have made a difference though, Memory Thorn. It deepens the relationship between the main characters quite a bit to know that 2B reached a point where she couldn't kill him anymore, and 9S chose to kill himself instead, just so they could keep seeing each other.

The problem is, how do you fit this in the story that's in the game? The 2E reveal would have to happen at an earlier part of the game, which is hard because it kind of needs to happen after 9S has gone haywire, and it can't happen too soon after the reveal either or it's just going to feel hamfisted and rushed. I would have liked to see it in the game, but I don't know where it'd be, and that might even be the real reason it isn't in the game, as opposed to some kind of jew ploy as everyone likes to immediately assume about everything.
