I don't have any in deep knowledge of how BB works, but it seems like it uses two different methods of dealing with framedrops depending on whether you are in multiplayer or not.

The framerate goes to shit with multiple people doing stuff, it's a fact of life.

But by myself when the game has trouble it never actually drops frames, it just slows down. I've had instances in chalice dungeons where multiple enemies all do AOE attacks at once and for about 1-2 seconds the game ran at 0.25x speed, my hunter was jumping in slow motion.
