So which type of 3D Mario is the best? Wise Open Sandbox, Linear Worlds or Isometric Individual Levels?

>not including sunshine instead of 3d world
>>
>>376264457
Take a look at this retard
>>
>>376264457
Didn't Mario galaxy have its own version of the wing cap?
>>
Linearity of course.

What good is a plethora of maneuverability options if the level doesn't do anything with them? They may as well not be there at all.
>>
>>376264268
Galaxy 1 & 2.

They're each far superior to Mario 64
>>
Open sandbox for sure. 64 and SMS controls are the most fluid/least floaty/stilted-feeling
>>
>>376264898
It had a red star power-up that you could only use in one level and in the hub
>>
>>376264268
a mix of mario 64 large open world levels and galaxy 2 / 3d world linear levels would be optimal
playing yooka laylee showed me how much i missed a large open world but also how its easily ruined by incompetence
>>
>>376264941
My nigga
>>
>>376264268
Sunshine is the best one. 64 has shitty camera and small worlds.
>>
>>376264901
u wot
>>
>>376264901
Do linear levels really make you utilize your maneuverability options more than open levels?
>>
>>376264457
Reminder that this is not only false, leaving out more than actually is missing but conviniently ignores the other games new mechanics aswell.
>>
The true answer is open world but not wide open world.

Keep the level nonlinear but contained to a reasonable space.

Most 64/Sunshine levels aren't very large, and are better off for it.

Nonlinear doesn't have to mean big.

Linear bonus levels like the slide or the Sunshine stages are fine as bonus stages.
>>
>>376265543
Patrician taste
>>
>>376264268
A game that had Galaxy style level design, with a Mairo 64 style central hub area, and Sunshine's controls would be the perfected 3D Mario.
>>
>>376264268
I always loved sunshine but everyone fucking hates sunshine.
>>
>>376265397
And pretending that the removal of one of the most retarded mechanics of the game is a bad thing.
>>
>>376266143
>everyone fucking hates sunshine.
what? i don't know anyone who hates sunshine, even /v/ likes it
>>
>>376264268
I like them all except Sunshine.
>>
>>376264268
smo (expectations) > 3dw > sm64 > smg > sms > sml > smg2
>>
>>376266327
I do not like sunshine
>>
>>376266143
>>376266327
Sunshine is fucking ass, such a downgrade form 64
>>
>>376264901
Open levels give you a set amount of options for you to explore, and you are rewarded for figuring out which opinions are available to you at any given time
>>
>>376265272
64 worlds are reasonably sized except maybe a couple. And even then, WHomp's Fortress is a fine size for what they put into it

>>376265543
true

>>376266650
why hate Galaxy 2?

Also, as someone who hasnt played 3D Land, is it good?
>>
>>376266975
3D Land is decent but it's pretty much a watered down version of 3D World. If you have a Wii U play that one instead.
>>
>>376267146
Can it be called a watered down version if it came first?

I dont have a Wii U so I'll play it. I have played a fair bit of World with friends though
>>
>>376266975
galaxy 2 was ok, but it didnt innovate at all. just felt like a carbon copy of the first with linear structure instead and yoshi and worse levels. just watered down galaxy 1
3d land is ok, but it also feels the same way. just a watered down 3d world
>>
>>376267326
>>376266975
It's fine, I'd rather call it a simplyfied galaxy with very linear levels aside from a selected few.
What's really great though is that you unlock a whole second set of worlds after your first playthrough which are decently challenging, atleast if you go autist on the collectibles.
>>
>>376267661
I do, since NWMB added star coins, so that's good.
>>
>>376264268
I like them all, but I guess I prefer it to be one or the other and not something in the middle like the galaxy games. Anyway, I hope they keep making both kinds.
>>
>>376267371
odd how everyone just wants Galaxy 3
>>
>>376266975
>Also, as someone who hasnt played 3D Land, is it good?
It's okay. If you liked 3D World you'll like it. It's basically a lesser version of it.
>>
>>376267371
>worse levels.
Galaxy 2's levels are miles better. You're right it didn't innovate but it polished the formula to a shine.
It's not watered down Galaxy 1 at all.
>>
>>376264268
>Galaxies/64 >= Odyssey > Sunshine > "3D"Land > """3D"""World
>Isometric
>3D
Kek
>>
>>376269328
Some people just want their minds blown everytime they fire up a new game, an ill behaviour to have.
I love Galaxy and it blewed my mind, yet I enjoyed playing Galaxy 2 even more, despite not being blown away in the same way, it was exactly what I wanted, more crazy levels and it was even more challenging in the later stages.
>>
>>376266975
Mario controls like butter in Sunshine it's so perfect. Also the music is godlike unlike the crap 64 put out.

Galaxy is just casual shit. Even Nintendo themselves said so.
>>
>>376269995
>Even Nintendo themselves said so.
Cant argue with this honestly. I think they even consider the galaxy games and 3D Land/world equal
>>
>>376266716
You mean an upgrade.
>>
>>376266143
/v/ is full of gamecubebabbys who defend mario sunshine and sonic edgeventure 2 to death though
>>
>>376270983
But Sonic Adventure 2 originated on the Dreamcast...
Also,
>babbys
Most people who grew up with the Gamecube are old enough to post on 4chan.
>>
>>376271086
i can tell you're just barely old enough yourself

>>

dreamcast sold less than gamecube
>>
>>376271250
>implying Sunshine needs to be defended when it's definitively the best 3D Mario
I want 64 nostalgianormiefags to get off this board.
