DDR is one of the only real rhythm games. Along with IIDX, Pop'n, and Gitadora. Every other rhythm game is just a variation of one of these.

It helps only with your stamina. To learn how to "read" and improve your timming you need to play for real. Obviously the best option is to play in the machine.

When I was in high school I was really fat and I only played the ps1 versions with a controller. I liked the game and became really good so I started practicing jumping on the floor like a jackass but it worked. I lost a lot of weight and I met a lot of friends at the arcade and even join a pump it up team.

Good enough for ITG marvelous full combos? No.
