Agreed. The way I see it is that in DMC: 5parda should come back and be evil due to some reason. Maybe he's possessed? Maybe after all these years he feels that humanity has lost its purpose and isn't worth saving? Whatever, it's just how it is.

Sparda stars wreaking havoc on the world with his demon army. At the beginning of the game Dante and Nero team up to try and fight him but Dante... for the first time in the series legit get his shit kicked and Nero just gets killed. So now Dante has to go on a quest to find and resurrect his brother Vergil. He succeeds and with their combined might they are accomplish their father's defeat. They are also able to evolve their Devil Trigger to the next level during the fight. Sparda last words are something like "I'm proud of you two. My sons... Eva and I.... we always wanted you both to work together. As brothers....."

However, Vergil blames Dante for letting Nero die and his grudge against him continues. Dante become depressed as hell and overtime turns into his DMC2 self. DMC5: Special Edition includes a playable Sparda whose playstyle is a combination of Dante and Vergil.

I love Nero. Even more than Dante in many ways. Many fans do I'm sure. But I want the fight with Sparda to have more impact. He's been hyped up all these games after all. And this would also explain why Dante has the serious and cold demeanor in 2. In this way the story holds some stakes and we have all three: Nero, Dante and Vergil in the playthrough. When Vergil comes back, you can choose to play as him or continue with Dante instead. Co-op functionality is also a possibility. The way that DMC can truly go to the next level is co-op. Imagine the combos you would be able to pull off with two players.

DMC4 is shit. There are no challenging enemies in that game what so ever. The only challenge is skill ceiling which is pointless since there's no threat. The game is so shit that in order for there to be any real type of threat you have to mod the game to have double or triple or what you consider the "challenging enemy" of the game.
