It's pointless discussing the majority of Halo 5. The vast majority of the game is is utter trash. Be it the campaign (hope you like forced squad mechanics that don't work properly), or the DLC model (hope you like the same again but now it's snowing), or most of the multiplayer (hope you like microtransactions and no in house big team maps), or even the way you play with your friends (split screen? System link? Who needs em?). And I'm not even going to comment on the narrative because... just... how?
However, at the very VERY core of Halo 5's arena multiplayer is a very finely tuned and balanced game. If we just focus on this specific area, then you will see something worth salvaging from this train wreck.

I'll be blunt, Halo 5's arena is the most balanced halo multiplayer since, well, ever. Every single weapon is viable in pretty much every situation, a goal many God games have attempted to get right, but even where they succeed Halo 5 outpaces most of them because every weapon still feels distinct and unique. It's not like other games where there might be good weapon balance but that results in samey experiences. No, Halo 5's weapon sandbox is balanced to a T and still diverse. I applaud 343 for getting this down, and it's clear the early beta was a good choice to help hone them in.
Now don't get the wrong idea, just because it's balanced doesn't mean it's not flawed. Halo 5 arena multi might have the most even playing field in the series, but it still suffers from 2 major issues. First, there's way too much advanced mobility bullshit still in the game. Sprint brings nothing positive to the franchise and combined with clambering and Spartan charging it has effectively killed clever map design because every map has to compensate for those abilities now. The other issue is that it caters far too much to the esports crowd and is a turn off for over 90% of the player base.
Halo 5 arena multi is the blueprint for the best halo multi, but it's not the best itself.

Sprint especially has only a negative effect. It takes just as long to traverse maps only now they're bigger to compensate it. It's most beneficial use is running away, which won't work all the Timex but far more so than earlier games.

Reach is the worst looking Halo, this has nothing to do with the art, the sub 720p, sub 20 fps, film grain, motion blur, and desaturated color makes the campaign look like it aged worse than Halo 3 (which is also sub 720p). I'm glad both Halo 4 and 5 brought back the series saturated colors it's known for but their art, lighting, and aesthetics are shit.
