The first part of the DLC is introduces the idea of using Fire to purge the world, instead of ending it. The painter can create a new world, and better, to escape the dying Ariandel, and the dying "real" world. Part 2 has you go to the ends of the earth to find the dark soul, turn it into a pygmy, and give it to the girl so a new world is created.

It's From saying thanks to fans, but that it is time to move onto something new. It is related to the main quest to set up the parallels, and to make the big picture clear.

I love how Dreg Heap was literally just Kiln of the First Flame's missing level, and the damn thing still wasn't finished when we got it.

It could've been a huge place (at least 5 bonfires) full of snippets of areas in previous games and all they to do was reuse shit like they did the whole game.

Would've made the payoff so much greater when reaching the Ringed City, to have so much more between you getting there. Even if the City itself is barely explorable.
