they either faced the choice of making a third game that wouldn't have been as good, or to polish the first two games instead

the password system was supposedly a nightmare to work with in the first place, so trying to implement it in all three games and have it work flawlessly was just too much of a headache

they instead used what remaining time they had to polish ages and seasons, giving us the great games we ended up getting
