M&T 1.xx was definitely real slow if your computer wasn't beastly, but 2.0 will be faster (still slower than vanilla, but you can see on stream that it's acceptably fast)

Remember though, the first 1 or 2 years are filled with tons of setup events, because sadly you can't just code everything to be on the map at start, so it'll always be slow. Put it on speed 1 and think about your strategy.

Same, it would really help my immersion in Civ when I play it once every two years to have population in counts of hundred thousands instead of "this city has 8 citizens" I thought it was stupid when the game came out when I was 12 and I think it's stupid now.
