Akechi was a great character.

The only thing we missing from him is the awakening of his original Persona and raison d'etre of his revenge, hence the lack of focus on his backstory. So far we only hear thing from his mouth, not trough on-screen event plot, hence why most of people doesn't feel sympathethic.
